FKIP – The Student Creativity Program Team for the Application of Science and Technology (PKM-PI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, chaired by Arief Reza Indra Saputra together with members Andrian Iswanto and Nindy Elsa Rafela innovated ergonomic and soybean fermenting washing technology cost-effective. They implemented this innovation to help increase the productivity of UD Tempe 85 Boyolali industrial players under the guidance of Dr. Eng Nugroho Agung Pambudi, M.Eng.
UD Tempe 85, which is located in Bantulan RT 05, Jembungan Village, Banyudono District, Boyolali Regency, Central Java Province, has been successful as a tempe industry player in supporting the development of food security in regional markets. UD Tempe 85 has 5 employees, with Subandi as the business owner.

Significant market demand with manual production management requires much time and energy. There is no supporting equipment on the market that shortens the fermentation washing stage in one container, requiring 2-3 hours of washing time per day. Apart from that, employees who repeatedly have to bend down and are exposed to high water intensity can also cause fatigue or pain in their limbs.
Starting from the findings of these problems, the PKM FKIP UNS Team from the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program (Prodi) followed up with innovation and supported by technological knowledge by creating a tool in the form of a fermenting washing machine that was ergonomic and cost-effective.
The washing and fermenting equipment functions to make it easier for employees to stir the soybeans during the fermentation washing process by using a dynamo as the power generated for automatic rotation, thereby minimizing time and energy in tempeh production. This tool still functions if a power outage occurs because the tool can be operated manually using a crank that is rotated vertically.
Subandi, as the owner of the partner business, expressed his gratitude because, with the washing and fermenting machine, the productivity of tempe production has increased from usually producing 350-400 kg to 700 kg of soybeans. By using this machine, the employee comfort level increases.
Arief and the team were also happy because this soybean washing and fermenting machine had a direct positive impact on partners. The increase in tempe production productivity and the turnover obtained by partners has motivated Arief and his team to commit to increasing the number of soybean washing and fermenting machines so that they can help other businesses.
Innovation can run and receive funding appreciation through the Student Creativity Program for the Application of Science and Technology (PKM-PI) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology 2023. This program runs for approximately 5 months.
