FKIP – Students of the Fine Arts Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held several Art Edu Care 2024 Pre Event activities. In this pre-event, Art Edu Care activities began with the Village Surgery: Workshop and Mural, School Workshop, and closed with Gatsu; Live Music, Live Painting. This pre-event activity was held from May 9 – 28, 2024.

The first activity, Bedah Kampung: Workshop and Mural was held on May 9-12, 2024, at Cinderjo Lor Village, Gilingan Village, Banjarsari, Surakarta. This activity aims to inspire children’s creativity, and improve the environment around Cinderjo Lor Village. Activities carried out include village cleanup, murals, and creativity workshops.

In a series of activities, the residents of Cinderjo Village were initially invited to carry out a mutual cooperation action to clean up Cinderjo Lor Village. The residents cleaned the streets and parks together. In addition to instilling a sense of environmental love and responsibility. This village cleanup was also carried out to foster a cleaner and more beautiful future for Cinderjo Lor Village.

Furthermore, after cleaning the village, the activity continued with a joint mural. Students of the Fine Arts Education Study Program and residents together drew the walls at several strategic points in Cinderjo Lor Village. Each mural depicts cultural richness and tolerance. Then, after finishing the mural, the Village Surgery activity ended with a creativity workshop involving all the children in Cinderjo Lor Village. The children were invited to express their creativity by painting plastic bottles and used gallons.

“Bedah Kampung is more than just an art exhibition, it is a testament to the creativity and collaboration of Fine Arts Education students with local residents. By channeling their talents and collective spirit that aims to revitalize Cinderjo Lor Village,” said Hiba Aji Pamungkas, Chair of Art Edu Care 14.

The second pre-event activity was a School Workshop held on May 21-28, 2024. The School Workshop targeted 3 elementary schools in Surakarta, namely SD N Sabrang Lor on May 20, SD Kanisius Sorogenan on May 22, and SD Warga on May 28. This workshop was filled with painting activities on tote bag media. The workshop was aimed at 3rd and 4th grade elementary school children to train the flexibility of the students’ hands in scratching the paint using a brush on the tote bag.

Before starting to paint on the tote bag, students are given materials related to painting, starting from the materials used, the shape of the brush and its use, various colors, finger movements when painting. Then, the painting activity carried out after this material is not given a special theme, students are actually given the freedom to be able to express their ideas and ideas in the form of paintings on tote bag media.
