FKIP – Students of Economics Education and Biology Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta succeeded in making achievements in the MAPS 2021 essay competition event. Novianti Meuti Aningrum, a 2019 Economic Education student took Dwi Septyana Rahmawati, a 2019 Biology Education student as a partner in the essay competition organized by MAPS UNS.

MAPS is a competition event organized by UNS Nature Lovers Economics Students (MEPA). There are two categories of competitions, namely PUBG competition and Essay Competition. The competition starts on July 5, 2021 and ends on August 28, 2021. The activity ends with the announcement of the winner which will be held on August 29, 2021 via whatsapp group.

With the provision of the theme “Environmental Life in a Metropolutan City”, Novianti and Septyana won 3rd place in this essay competition event. Novianti and Septyana proposed the idea of ​​“FACTORY: Management Ecobrickto Reduce Plastic Waste Pollution in Surakarta”. The emergence of this idea is motivated by the phenomenon of the large amount of waste that has not been managed properly, especially plastic waste in the Surakarta area. Seeing this phenomenon, they took the initiative to propose ideas to innovate plastic waste into goods that have use value and economic value.

Septyana explained a series of competition activities that were passed to become the 3rd place winner. At first, Novianti and Septyana participated in the paper selection. Then, they are selected as one of the five finalists who qualify for the semifinal or presentation stage. The next stage, the committee selects two finalists to enter the final stage or FGD. However, because his team was declared runner up in the presentation stage, Novianti and Septyana did not enter the final stage.

“Our team was the runner-up in the presentation stage so it did not enter the final stage,” said Septyana.

At the end, Septyana conveyed his hopes and plans that he would do. He expressed his desire to contribute to the development of the country.

“Hopefully, the essays that we bring can be useful for life. In the future, we hope to be able to take part in essay competitions or other competitions and contribute more to development while still a student,” concluded Septyana.
