FKIP – Regional Superior Product Development Program Team (PPPUD) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta 2021 assists Mitra Karya Manunggal Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) which produce Wooden Batik Masks in Hamlet Bobung Tourism, Putat Village, Patuk District, Gunung Kidul Regency on Monday (10/18/2021).

The UNS Surakarta PPPUD team with the chairman Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc., and members of Prof. Dr. Pujiyono, SH, MH, Dr. Kristen, M.Sc., and Dwi Maryono, S.Si., M.Kom. participate in making a positive contribution to the community in the Hamlet Bobung Tourism through community assistance activities in the context of developing regional superior products that are export class after the pandemic. The mentoring activity is a series of activities PPPUD funded by the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek) or the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for the 2021 budget year. It is

entitled “Diversity of Wooden Batik Mask Souvenir Designs as a Leading Export Product for the Gunung Kidul Region of Yogyakarta in Facing the Free Market. ASEAN”, the UNS PPPUD team carried out several mentoring activities. The mentoring activities carried out are online product marketing assistance, online bookkeeping, exports, industrial management, industrial law, and design.

Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro M.Si as Head of the UNS PPPUD Team and Deputy Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKIP UNS Surakarta explained that the mentoring activity was aimed at reviving the art of mask crafts in Bobung Hamlet after being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has frozen the mask craft business. So, this series of service events that have been carried out since 2020 aims to revive mask craft arts activities in Bobung Hamlet, Gunungkidul Regency, “explained Prof. Slamet.

UNS PPPUD Team cooperated with mask craftsmen, dancers, and the village government represented by the Head of Bobung Hamlet in this activity. The Head of Bobung Hamlet acknowledged that strategic steps were needed to overcome the problem of mask crafts during the pandemic. In 2021, the UNS PPPUD Team started activities by conducting a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) led directly by Prof. Slamet. The results of the FGD can be obtained information that there are several crucial problems, such as damaged craft equipment and the difficulty of marketing products.

Sujiman as a craftsman in Bopung Hamlet explained that the mentoring activities by The UNS PPPUD team are very useful in the What is the condition of the production of mask crafts that are not running smoothly at this time.

“This service is very useful, especially in jammed mask production conditions. With this dedication in the form of discussion activities, strategic and synergistic thoughts emerged between universities, the community, and stakeholders to continue mask crafts in Bobung Hamlet. In the last two years, several assistances have been carried out comprehensively and help SMEs to survive during the pandemic,” explained Sujiman.

In the mentoring activity, Prof. Slamet emphasized the importance of collaboration and regeneration in reviving the arts and crafts of banner masks in Bobung Hamlet.

“Collaboration and regeneration are important things to revive the arts and crafts of banner masks in Bobung Hamlet. Art in the technological and millennial era demands changes so that they exist and are sustainable in the era of disruption and rapidly changing times,” said Prof. Slamet.
