FKIP – The Quality Assurance Unit (UPM) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta received a visit from the Faculty of Letters (FS) State University of Malang (UM) on Wednesday (27/10/2021). This visit was carried out in the context of a comparative study between FS UM and FKIP UNS.

This activity was attended by the UM FS group which was chaired by Deputy Dean I of the UM Faculty of Letters, Dr. Primardiana Hermilia Wijayanti, M.Pd. This activity was also attended by the Vice Dean II of FS UM, Head of Study Programs (Kaprodi), secretary of Study Programs, as well as several lecturers of FS UM. The group with a total of 20 people was welcomed by Deputy Dean I of FKIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Si, Deputy Dean II of FKIP UNS, Dr. Dewi Kusuma Wardani, M.Si, and the UPM FKIP UNS Team, and were also welcomed by the Head of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs for Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI), English Language Education, Regional Language Education, and Fine Arts Education.

The activity began with the presentation of the profile of FKIP UNS by Prof. Slamet. He explained the number of study programs in FKIP, the accreditation status of the study programs, and the quality assurance process carried out.

“FKIP UNS has 23 study programs, with the status of 21 study programs accredited A, 2 study programs accredited B (new study programs). Quality assurance in FKIP is carried out by the UNS FKIP Quality Assurance Unit. UPM itself consists of three fields, including the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), External Quality Assurance System (SPME), and monitoring and evaluation,” explained Prof. Slamet.

Prof. Slamet added that the results of the evaluation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) showed that the achievement of the UNS IKU was ranked first nationally.

“Based on the results of the evaluation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2021, the achievement of the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) of UNS has succeeded in being ranked first,” Prof. Slamet continued.

The activity continued with the presentation of the profile of FS UM by Dr. Primardian. He conveyed the study programs contained in FS UM, the status of accreditation, and the expectations of this activity.

“The UM Faculty of Letters has 21 undergraduate study programs. Several Study Programs are in the process of applying for international accreditation and certification. Hopefully, this activity can be a place to exchange information, especially regarding best practice quality assurance, “said Dr. Primardian.

The activity continued with a discussion on quality assurance. Presented by the Head of UPM FKIP UNS, Dr. Suharno, explained the quality assurance cycle of determination, implementation, evaluation, control, and improvement (PPEPP), namely planning, implementation, evaluation, control, and improvement of quality standards. At the evaluation stage, a two-level Internal Quality Audit (AMI) system is applied. Level one for all study programs at FKIP UNS and level two for the faculty level.

Furthermore, the Coordinator of Monitoring and Evaluation of FKIP UNS, Dr. Baskoro Adi Prayitno added that the first level AMI auditor at the Study Program level is the Chair and Secretary of the Study Program Quality Control Group (GKM) who have passed auditor training. The audit instruments used include checklists, corrective and preventive action request forms (PTKP).

Dr. Bowo Sugiharto, M.Pd., as the SPMI Coordinator added that the implementation of the quality culture in FKIP UNS uses four kinds of documents, namely the SMPI policy, the SPMI manual, the SPMI standard, and the SPMI form. AMI’s findings were then followed up with discussions at the Management Review Meeting (RTM) by faculties and universities.
