FKIP – Mathematics Education Student Association (Himmadika) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) ) Surakarta held life skills training on Sunday (10/24/2021). The activity, which was held online through the Zoom Meeting, carried the theme “Building Student Creativity in Creating IT-Based Mathematics Learning Media in Era 4.0”.

In his speech, Dr. Triyanto as the head of the Mathematics Education Study Program FKIP UNS explained that as a prospective professional mathematics teacher, the thing that needs to be strengthened is not only mastery of mathematical content but also pedagogical abilities and the use of technology media. Moreover, according to him, when the use of technology is less than learning will not be optimal.

“Students as prospective mathematics teachers must not only master mathematical content but must be strong in their pedagogy and skilled in the use of technology,” he explained.

This activity to equip mathematics education students as prospective professional mathematics teachers invited Masruhan Mufid as a Lecturer of the Semarang Shipping Science Polytechnic, Trainer, Influencer, as well as a Youtuber as a resource person.

Mufid explained that a teacher must understand the learning system to support their learning process. For example, nationally recommended learning systems such as Rumah Belajar, G Suite, Ruang Guru, and Zenius.

The problem is that many teachers are talkative about the learning process. In this new normal era, teachers tend to still use the same way. Like giving assignments to students. This is triggered by the lack of skills and mastery of technology by teachers.

“It turns out that many lecturers and teachers are talkative, why? Because education is no longer a transfer of knowledge but education is only a transfer of assignments,” he said.

Furthermore, Mufid brought hashtags #KreasiDiEraInkubasi and#beCreativeTeacher as learning solutions in the new normal. According to him, learning is not just an assignment but can be done by teaching manuals and teaching in the form of videos.

In making learning videos some elements must be present, namely simple, clear teacher’s voice, teacher’s facial appearance, and teacher’s handwriting. This element makes the video more impressive to make it easier for students to understand and the teacher in making it.

“Not all teachers, not all prospective teachers, not all lecturers or prospective lecturers are smart in making a video, so make the video easy,” he explained.
