FKIP – Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Study Program (PG PAUD) The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an online webinar on Sunday (31/10/2021).

This webinar is a humanitarian project by PG PAUD students who received a grant for the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) UNS in 2021. The theme of this webinar is “Building Father and Son Closeness”. The goal is to reduce the level of fatherless in Indonesia, which is number 3 in the world.

This activity is motivated by the existence of a strong culture that is inherent in Indonesia which makes the roles between men and women unbalanced. The role of parents in Indonesia is still dominated by women. The role of the father is very important to shape the morale of the child.

The webinar was opened directly by Novita Eka Nurjanah, M.Pd. as a field supervisor. In her speech, Novita conveyed the purpose of this webinar.

“The purpose of this activity is to provide knowledge and knowledge about parenting to the general public, especially to fathers and prospective fathers. Second, socialize how to build closeness between fathers and children. Third, reduce the level of fatherless in Indonesia. Lastly, improving the quality of parenting for children,” explained Novita.

Dr. Anyanti Rahmawati, S.Psi., MA, Psikolog as the first resource person and Head of the PG PAUD FKIP UNS Study Program explained material on the importance of fathers for daughters, how fathers should provide care in the event of separation, and how to care for long-distance marriages with children.

“Parenting occurs since the child is still in the womb until he is an adult. Parenting will never stop. Ideally, there is a father and mother in parenting. It will not go well if there is no cooperation between father and mother,” explained Anayanti.

Anyanti also explained the reasons for the father being far away from the child, namely because of long-distance marriage, divorce, and death. Then, Anyanti gave tips to bring fathers who were far away, namely by praying, establishing intense communication, often being told stories about fathers, always asking for father’s permission, and fathering being an example.

Vera Sholeha, S.Pd., M.Pd. as the second resource person delivered material on the importance of building closeness between fathers and children, the benefits of closeness between fathers and children, and tips on building closeness with fathers.

“Step is a great father, the first is being role aware. Then make new commitments with your partner, respect your partner or mother of children, set aside time for family, get involved in family matters, and join support groups,” said Vera.

The webinar activity ended with a question and answer session and discussion.
