FKIP – Student Association of Informatics and Computer Engineering Education Study Program (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an online E-Gen Tech webinar via Zoom Cloud Meeting on Monday (27/12/2021).

The E-Gen Tech webinar carries the theme “Empowering the Nation’s Generation on Facing Natural Disasters with Technology” which has the aim of introducing the benefits of technology to the community, especially in dealing with natural disasters that often occur recently.

The webinar was officially opened by Cucuk Wawan Budiyanto, S.T., Ph.D. as the Head of the Informatics and Computer Engineering Education Study Program (Kaprodi) FKIP UNS.

“When everyone talks about virtual conditions, we must realize that no matter how virtual a disaster is, it will definitely be real. The disaster is imminent and we cannot face it virtually. However, your contribution to this webinar is a proud step for us,” said Cucuk in his speech.

The webinar was hosted by Kevin Alexander Josa Sudarmono and Anna Sanya Khazanah with Soerja Kusuma as the speaker as Remote Sensing and Geoelectric Method in Surakarta City. Soerja presented the material with the title “The Role of Technology in Disaster Risk Reduction”.

“So there is a cycle in disaster mitigation. Starting from pre-disaster, there are prevention mitigation and preparedness. Then the response during the emergency response and recovery during the post-disaster,” explained Soerja, starting his presentation.

In the next material, Soerja explained the pentahelix of disaster.

“In the past, we had the pentahelix, the first was cooperation with the government, the community, and the business world, but now, there is a paradigm shift into five components that must work together to overcome disasters. Now there is the media, the government, the public, the business world, and the academy,” said Soerja.

Before ending his presentation, Soerja presented material on disaster management and mentioned several technological applications in disaster risk reduction, including landslide disaster mitigation, early warning systems (floods, landslides, forest fires, and tsunamis), disaster logistics information systems, and InaRISK.
