FKIP – Islamic Activity Center (SKI) Pabelan Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Grand Closing Al Fath Routine Study on Monday (3/1/2021). Carrying the topic “The Key to the Happiness of the Hereafter”, the event was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application. This study was open to the public.
Moderated by Muhammad Husein Arafat as a student of the Informatics and Computer Engineering Education Study Program (PTIK) FKIP UNS and staff of the SKI Pabelan propaganda field FKIP UNS 2021, this activity presented a speaker, namely Dr. Mohammad Muchtarom, S.Ag., M.Sc. He is a lecturer in the Pancasila and Citizenship Education Study Program (PPKn) and the founder of Griya Adab Indonesia (Gradina). In addition, he is also the supervisor of SKI FKIP UNS.
In his presentation, he brought material entitled “Religion and Happiness”. He explained that happiness is in the mood, not the physical state. The physical can deceive, but the heart cannot.
“Many people interpret happiness as an indicator of having a lot of wealth, a high position, or popularity. In fact, not a few people who are worldly successful die in an unhappy condition, however, many people who live in a limited way but at the end of their lives die in a state of husnul khatimah. So, happiness is in the mood, not the physical atmosphere. What’s the mood? A mood that is heartfelt and safe. A heart that is calm and safe, that is, a heart that has faith in it and receives guidance from Allah through the Koran,” explained Dr. Muchtarom.

He added that happiness is divided into two categories, namely intrinsic happiness, and majestic happiness. True happiness is ukhrawi happiness, namely happiness that is capitalized from faith, knowledge, and charity, whereas majestic happiness is worldly happiness.
“According to Al Ghazali, as-sa’adah or happiness is divided into two. The first happiness is true happiness or happiness in the hereafter. This happiness comes from the capital of faith, knowledge, and charity. The second happiness is the happiness of majasi or worldly happiness. This happiness can be obtained by people who believe and can be obtained by people who do not believe,” added Dr. Muchtarom.
At the end of his presentation, he emphasized the relationship between religion and happiness. According to him, religion will be the foundation of achieving happiness if humans maintain their nature.
“The relationship between religion and happiness is very close. Religion is the foundation for achieving happiness. The key to religion is in human nature or holiness or monotheism. Humans have a duty to maintain their nature. There are three commitments to monotheism to achieve happiness, namely, monotheism exists since in the spirit realm, soul monotheism develops well with faith education, and the value of monotheism guides humans to achieve happiness,” said Dr. Muchtarom.
