FKIP – Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program (PTM) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) held Alumni Back to Campus activities on Saturday (29/29/2011) 1/2022). Carrying the topic of “PTM Alumni Job Prospects in Various Fields”, the activity was packaged in the form of an online talk show via the Zoom Meeting application.
Moderated by Risa Tri Komala Sari as a student of the 2020 PTM FKIP UNS Study Program, the talk show presented two PTM FKIP UNS alumni as resource persons. The first resource person was Agung Febryanto, S.Pd. He is an alumnus of PTM FKIP UNS in 2016 and now works as Maintenance Quality Control at Okayama Eagle Co. Japan.
On this occasion, Agung shared his experience after becoming an alumnus of PTM FKIP UNS. He explained that before taking a job opportunity abroad, he had to attend training that covered the language, customs, and culture of his destination country.
“Before, I had no expectations of working in Japan. Well, when I registered at a company I was placed in Cikarang. After work, I found out that there was an exchange of workers to Japan and I was interested. Before leaving for Japan, I attended a 7-month training that covered Japanese language, customs, and culture,” explained Agung.
Agung added that the biggest scourge for someone who wants to work abroad is language. When someone wants to develop a career abroad, they are not only required to master English but the language of the country where we work.
“In my opinion, the main scourge for someone who works abroad is language. So, when we try to make a career abroad, we have to learn the language of that country, like it or not. One thing that needs to be understood is that when we want to develop a career abroad, English is not an added value for us. However, English is a mandatory thing that we must master. After language, we will also be required to adapt to the culture and customs of the country,” Agung added.

The second resource person is Galang Rayna, S.Pd. He is an alumnus of PTM FKIP UNS in 2015 and an educator at SMK Warga Surakarta. In his explanation, he denied that the stigma of being an educator would get a low honorarium.
“I have come across several situations where PTM graduates do not want to become teachers because their salaries are low. In reality, not all private and public SMKs are like that. Many schools already provide salaries above the minimum wage and some schools provide salaries based on teaching hours. Therefore, the stigma of being an educator will get a low honorarium is not appropriate, “said Galang.
At the end of his presentation, Galang asked the discussion participants to try to be good educators. That is, being an educator who can lead students to reach the future.
“Let’s start today by instilling in ourselves to try to be good educators, namely to become educators who can lead our students to achieve what they aspire to. Maybe we can’t see that future. However, we can help them to do something useful for their future,” concluded Galang.
