FKIP – Two students of the Fine Arts Education Study Program (PSR) ) The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta won 2nd place in the International Poster Competition in the digital illustration competition “Plastic Free Oceans Art Contest” held by Albatross Designs It, Australia. They are Andri Aulia Rahman and Alif Sholihin.

Announced on Wednesday (2/2/2022) via the email newsletter Albatross Designs It, Andri and Alif carried a poster educating the public to protect the marine ecosystem by not throwing plastic waste in the sea. In the poster, Andri and Alif also provide ornaments of Indonesian culture as national identities, such as Indonesian traditional clothes and iconic places in Indonesia.

To the Public Relations Team of FKIP UNS on Tuesday (8/2/2022), Alif explained that participating in competitions, both national and international levels, was very beneficial for students. According to him, participating in competitions can add provisions and experience and shape character.

“I think as a student, participating in competitions that match their interests and talents is important. First, you can add provisions before graduating, for example, to fill out a CV or portfolio. Second, it can also add experience and shape character. For example, when If you lose in a competition, at least we will get experience from the process we run. Our skills will increase and our mentality will be formed, that winning and losing is a normal thing in life, “explained Alif.

Then, Andri shared how to find information about the competitions he usually does. He explained that he usually looks for information through social media Instagram.

“In today’s era, we can access information with the help of social media, as well as when looking for competition information. Usually, I search for it via Instagram. The way we do this is to enter the search feature on Instagram and type in the appropriate keywords. For example, for a poster competition, we can use hashtags. national poster competition. So, if you want to find international-level competitions, you can use the hashtag poster competition. In essence, we are exploring keywords,” explained Andri.

Andri added that when he had found the race information, he would research the winners in the previous competitions. The hope is that he can find inspiration and innovation for the works he will compete in.

At the end of the interview session, Alif invited his fellow students to take advantage of their privileges by participating in positive activities.

“Let’s take advantage of the privileges that we have by participating in positive activities, such as organizations, competitions, social activities, and so on. Find a supportive environment to do this. Then, write and strive for the desired achievements. When these achievements are not achieved, evaluate and don’t give up easily.
