Repka Fais as a member of the 51 KKN UNS Group explained that the Literacy Park was a form of their concern for the reading interest of the children of Kalanglundo Village. Where their enthusiasm for accessing reading books other than their school textbooks has not been supported by the availability of these books.
“We established this Literacy Park because we saw the enthusiasm of children in Kalanglundo Village to access reading books other than textbooks. Unfortunately, they at school do not get books like the ones we provide here. For example, fairy tales, science books children, prophet stories, social knowledge, and children’s magazines such as Bobo magazine,” explained Repka when contacted by the FKIP Journalists Team, Monday (21/2/2022).
Initially, the Literacy Park was established in front of the Kalanglundo Village Head’s house. However, due to the high enthusiasm of the children and the resulting unfavorable atmosphere, they moved them to the front hall of the Kalanglundo Village Hall.
Open every Friday and Saturday, Literacy Park visitors are divided into two sessions. On Friday, the first session was held in the afternoon from 15.00 to 16.00 WIB for elementary school children in grades I-III, while the second session was held at 16.00 to 17.00 WIB for elementary school children grades IV-VI.
The Repka and the team hope that this Literacy Park can spark interest in reading for children in Kalanglundo Village so that their literacy skills will also increase.
