FKIP – Ten students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta participated in the Indonesian Language Learning Internship Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at Yale University. This activity is a collaboration between Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Semarang State University (UNNES), and Yale University.
The ten students who were selected to take part in this program are nine from the S-1 Study Program for Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The nine students are Ain Nur Safira, Aisyah Salma Rasyidah, Cindy Laila Indahsari, Esti Yulandari, Kenes Ratu Pawestri, Laiatul Karimah, Nanda Yogi Zaliarisma, Nuri Puji Hastuti, and Umi Zulaihah. Also, one student came from the. Regional Language and Literature Education Master’s Degree Study Program, on behalf of Ajeng Sekar Mayastuti.

This activity is coordinated and guided by Dr. Kundharu Saddhono SS, M. Hum. The internship activity will last for 3 months and is directed to teach the Indonesian language and culture to students at Yale University. The learning developed is in the realm of language skills with material content of Indonesian language and culture.
Cindy Laila Indahsari, a student selected for the BIPA internship program, said that the apprenticeship system carried out was like peer teaching related to the Indonesian language, arts, and culture.
“This internship program is carried out using a peer tutoring model (peer teaching). Intern students interact directly and talk in Indonesian. The topics of discussion include culture and/or art in Indonesia,” explained Cindy to the Fkip.uns.ac.id Journalist Team on Saturday (26/02/2022).
Cindy also shared her feelings about joining this program.
“The impression of participating in this activity is that I am very happy because I can communicate directly with Yale University students, which are 15 of the world’s best universities. Then, it is an honor to be able to introduce Indonesian culture and language to foreign students, especially Yale students who are very enthusiastic about learning about Indonesia. Also, increase knowledge because Yale students are also active in discussing student life there,” continued Cindy.
Cindy also expressed her hopes for the future.
“Hopefully there will be more and more activities like this and the number of students participating will increase,” explained Cindy.
Dr. Kundharu as the supervisor also said that the BIPA program is expected to be able to provide positive progress for the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program in the international realm. Moreover, at this time, other BIPA programs are also being prepared, namely BIPA in Thailand, Japan, India, and Bangladesh. Also, prepared a BIPA internship program at Harvard University.
