FKIP – Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta Students who are members of the Group 104 Real Work Lectures (KKN) UNS held a 3R _(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Waste Management Socialization at the Kalisemo Village Hall, Loano District, Purworejo Regency. In collaboration with the Department of Environment and Fisheries (DLHP) of Purworejo Regency, the socialization was held by implementing the health protocol on Tuesday (22/2/2022).

Chaired by Theofilus Kharisma, the 104 KKN UNS Group consists of 8 members. They are Fairuzita Nurkesuma, Faisal Hartarto, Nur Romalisa, Salsabila Syifa Rania Yaman, Shania Hanif Bunga Valentina, Thomas Sedik, Vivie Silvania Intan Nirmala, and Zhufara Adhil Linanggeng.

Theofilus explained that socialization was one of the efforts to increase the awareness of the people of Kalisemo Village about the importance of waste management.

“In our opinion, the steps that can be taken to make the public aware of the importance of managing waste properly is to provide education about the negative impacts caused by not managing waste properly. Therefore, this waste management socialization work program is one of the efforts to increase public awareness Kalisemo Village about the importance of waste management,” explained Theofilus.

In his remarks, Sarimo, the Head of Kalisemo Village, said that the socialization held by the 104 KKN UNS Group could be one step in realizing the tourism village program launched by Kalisemo Village.

“This outreach is one step that can support the achievement of the Kalisemo Village program to become a tourist village. With waste management, it is hoped that Kalisemo Village will be clean, beautiful, and comfortable. Thus, tourists will be interested in visiting our village,” said Sarimo .

Attended by village officials and community leaders from Kalisemo Village, the socialization presented 2 resource persons from DLPH Purworejo Regency. They are Mr. Supriyono and Mr. Pono.

In their presentation, they explained the types of waste that exist in the community, namely organic, inorganic, medical, electronic, natural disasters, and demolition waste. Not only that, but they also explained the impact of the waste is not managed properly, such as air, water, soil pollution, and health problems.

Theofilus and his team hope that this socialization of waste management can motivate and educate the people of Kalisemo Village to implement good waste management.

“We hope that with this socialization, the community is motivated and able to carry out waste management properly. Thus, health problems will be reduced and the environment will be clean and comfortable. Then, the waste also has economic value that can increase people’s income,” hoped Theofilus.
