As we know, cases of sexual violence against early childhood are increasingly prevalent in Indonesia. Sexual violence will harm victims, both socially, physically, psychologically, and can even affect the future of children,” said Novita

. With the theme “Sexual Education in Early Childhood”, this webinar presented resource person Novita Eka Nurjanah, M.Pd. He is one of the PG PAUD lecturers at FKIP UNS. At the beginning of the presentation, Novita explained the concept of gender.

“Gender and gender are two different things. If gender is based on social and cultural construction, which can be changed and changed every time it follows developments and the place where it occurs, while gender is a biological difference between male and female sexes and is natural wherever it is located, “said Novita.

Novita also explained the steps that can be taken to deal with cases of sexual violence in early childhood and revealed the obstacles in introducing sexual education which was divided into two, namely the view of adults about sexuality and based on the discourse “The Innocent Child”.

“In the view of parents, children are asexual beings; the child is still pure, sexual is a contaminant; and children are protected from sexual information (protectionism). Based on the discourse of ‘The Innocent Child’, children are protected from sexual information; talk about sex is taboo for children, and the original question about sexuality was answered either by random or by silence,” said Novita.

The presentation is continued by discussing the stages of psychosexual development according to Freud and the benefits of sexual education for early childhood, namely the benefits of fulfilling children’s curiosity, preventing negative thoughts in children, and preventing sexual violence against children.

Furthermore, Novita informed how to report cases of sexual violence and appropriate treatment for children who experienced sexual violence.
