Retired Scientific Orations of Two FKIP UNS Surakarta Professors

FKIP – The Council of Professors at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a hybrid webinar and post-service scientific oration of professors on Wednesday (30/03/2022). The professor’s retired scientific oration was delivered by two retired UNS lecturers, namely Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd., and Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. both of which came from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS Surakarta.

In his speech, Prof. Drs. Suranto, M.Sc, Ph.D. as Chair of the Council of Professors (DP) UNS expressed his appreciation to Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. and Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. in devoting himself to UNS until his retirement.

“Retirement is an award given to great teachers, while others are retired. Because retirement is a special term, namely an award for a professor or professor who completes his dedication which is marked by giving a scientific oration about his expertise, “explained Prof. Drs. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D.

Furthermore, Prof. Suranto said that a lecturer will definitely experience the highest position until the age of 70 years.

“Basically, a lecturer will definitely experience the highest position until the age of 70, which is to become a professor. Professor is an academic position, so the two of them will never stop their work by giving the scientific baton to their juniors. Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. gave the scientific baton to Dr. Sarwanto, S.Pd., M.Sc. in the field of Science Education, and Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. who gave the baton to Dr. Edy Suryanto in the field of cultural studies. Both of them will give new lanterns to their juniors to continue. New lanterns that are continuously maintained and passed on by their juniors,” said the Chairperson of the UNS Professors’ Council.

Furthermore, the remarks of the Chancellor of UNS, represented by Prof. Dr. Bandi, M.Si. Act. as Deputy Chancellor II for General Affairs and Human Resources (HR) UNS Surakarta who said that retirement is not the end of everything and is not a scary time. Retirement is not a government reward for hard work. Many pensioners are more productive in their work so the retirement period can be used as a form of community service. Prof. Bandi thanks both of them.

On behalf of myself and UNS would like to thank you for your dedication, dedication, loyalty, and extraordinary example, UNS again invited Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. and Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. by giving the NIDK to re-dedicate their knowledge at UNS,” said the Deputy Chancellor II for General Affairs and Human Resources at UNS Surakarta.

At this event, Prof.’s retirement speech was delivered first. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. as a professor at UNS. Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. conveyed that the fun concept of learning Natural Sciences (IPA) was different from top physics. Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. seeks to disseminate interesting, challenging, and fun physics learning, abstract concepts are visualized in the form of pictures. This effort was made to ward off students’ assumptions that physics subjects were difficult, scary, and boring. During the inauguration speech, the professor also received the Rector’s appreciation (Prof. Dr. Syamsul Hadi, Sp.KJ. at that time) by naming PAIKEM GEMBROT Learning (Active, Innovative, Creative, Effective, Fun, Happy and Weighty Learning)

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. in delivering his retirement speech as a professor of FKIP UNS said that the receptive and productive subject of literature must see that the truth in literature is never finished and unstructured. Truth in literature is always in progress and always reflects the reality that must be read over and over again like a text. The reality of truth in literature needs to be read over and over again because the reality of truth in literature is always updated and complex. Receptive and productive subjects of literature must see that literary texts are the result of a continuing dialogue of the creator’s creativity when addressing phenomena.

After Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. and Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. conducting retirement scientific orations, handing over the baton of science. In this case, Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. handed the scientific baton to Dr. Sarwanto, S.Pd., M.Sc., and Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd. handed the scientific baton to Dr. Edy Suryanto, M.Pd. The handover of the scientific baton is a sign that the two professors who have done the science will never give up.
