FKIP – Postgraduate Study Program (S-2) Educational Technology (TP) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a workshop with the theme “Strategies for Writing Good Journal Articles” on Thursday (28/4/2022). The workshop was held online through the Zoom Meeting application.

Moderated by Dr. Fatma Sukmawati, M.Pd. as a TP S-2 Lecturer, this workshop presented two resource persons. The first resource person is Ghanis Putra, M.Pd. He is the Manager of the Innovative Journal of Curriculum and Education Technology, Postgraduate Semarang State University (UNNES). He is also an alumnus of the TP S-2 Study Program. In his presentation, he presented a material entitled “Improving the Quality of Substance of Scientific Articles”.

Broadly speaking, he describes 2 phases of preparation for writing a manuscript. Phase 1 is preparing research results and supporting hardware and software tools. Meanwhile, phase 2 is to improve the ability to write research into manuscripts. At the beginning of the presentation, he conveyed tips on choosing a bibliography.

“Generally, the bibliography is at least the last 5-10 years. The selection of the bibliography must also be relevant to the title. Relevance can be seen when the keyword in the title becomes the title in the reference source. In addition, I suggest choosing a reference that has not been a reference in a dissertation or thesis. This is to minimize the concern of ‘similarity’ when the Turnitin test is carried out,” said Ghanis.

The second resource person is Muhammad Hanif, M.Pd. He is the Manager of the EduBasic Journal of the Indonesian University of Education (UPI) and the UNS Technodic Journal. Similar to Ghanis, he is also an alumnus of the S-2 TP Study Program. He explained the material entitled “Writing Articles in Teknodika”.

In his presentation, he explained 3 main points, namely how to identify journals, how to upload articles in open journal systems (OJS), and the style of surrounding Teknodika Journal articles. He opened the presentation by explaining 2 categories of journals, namely national and international journals.

“There are 2 categories of journals that we all know about, namely national journals and international journals. National journals are divided into 5, namely accredited by Sinta 1 and 2, nationally indexed in UN languages, accredited by Sinta 3 and 4, accredited by Sinta 5 and 6, and unaccredited. Meanwhile, international journals are divided into 3, namely reputable international impact, reputable indexed international, and indexed or ordinary international, “explained Hanif.

The activity ended with a question and answer session and documentation.
