FKIP – The Student Association for Chemistry Education Study Program (Covalent Chemistry) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held the Scientific Work Club #1 activity on Sunday (24/4/2022). The activity was carried out online through Zoom Meetings and broadcast live through the UNS Kovalen Youtube channel.
Scientific Work Club #1 is an activity held with the aim of broadening students’ knowledge of the Chemistry Education Study Program (Prodi) of FKIP UNS about scientific work. The hope of this activity is to be able to channel writing skills in scientific work activities.
Scientific Works Club #1 carries the theme “Don’t Waste Your Time, Let’s Write to Win”. In this session, essays and scientific papers were discussed.
Scientific Works Club #1 brought in Nurlaila Sahara Worobay, S.Pd. as a presenter. She is an alumnus of the 2016 Chemistry Education Study Program who has research interests in the field of green chemistry.

At the beginning of the presentation, Laila explained the definition of scientific work which according to her is a work based on surrounding problems with solutions using the scientific method.
“Scientific work is a work based on the problems that exist around us, the solution of which is based on the scientific method,” explained Nurlaila.
Nurlaila said that scientific works are divided into three, namely scientific papers, essays, and scientific articles. Each is explained by Nurlaila accompanied by the correct example.
Then, Nurlaila gave tips on choosing a title that is unique, interesting, and represents the work you want to present.
“So, in a title, need to give a new feel or give something unique. You need to highlight your product names, be unique, simple, concise, and have to describe your product as a whole,” said Nurlaila.
In addition to explaining the selection of a good title, Nurlaila also explained the general mistakes that are often made when writing scientific papers.
Furthermore, Nurlaila gave tips when participating in scientific writing competitions. The activity ended with a one-term question and answer session and a group photo.
