FKIP – Study Program (Prodi) ) Building Engineering Education (PTB) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) held a workshop to improve instructional skills by using the case method and team-based-learning models in RPP/RPS. This activity was held in a mixture of online and offline in Building A JPTK FKIP UNS on Wednesday (22/06/2022). This activity brought together an expert on curriculum, learning science, and educational research at UNY, namely Dr. Wagiran, M.Pd.

This activity is expected to encourage the achievement of key performance indicators (KPI) which are the basis for higher education transformation, especially KPI 7 or innovative and collaborative learning. This is in line with the formula map of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) for increasing the percentage of courses through case-solving or project-based learning models.

The UNS baseline in October 2020 was 35%. Then, UNS targets 40% in 2021, 50% in 2022, 69% in 2023, and 70% in 2024. With this activity, PTB Study Program is optimistic that it will be able to achieve the target and maintain and improve university KPI achievements that have been achieved in 2020/ 2021.

Furthermore, UNS has won an award for achieving the KPI achievement of State Universities (PTN) which occupies a high position (10 percent) with 80 achievement points and obtained 774 growth points, which is stated in a copy of the Decree of the Director-General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesia Number 135/E/KPT/2021.

Study Program PTB continues to improve instructional skills as a very important pedagogic competency for lecturers in carrying out the tri dharma obligations of higher education. This activity is expected to directly support the first tri dharma, education, and teaching; the third tri dharma, community service is also carried out by participating in socializing knowledge to the community, especially vocational school (SMK) teachers and the general public who participate in online events.

This workshop is also expected to have an impact on increasing synergistic collaboration with partner schools, especially vocational schools in the Surakarta area. This collaboration guarantees the convenience of students to carry out educational internships and provides space for lecturers to carry out collaborative research involving teachers and students.

Then, regarding case method and team-based-project learning, it requires HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) which accommodates Bloom Level 4 taxonomy, namely the ability to analyze, synthesize, evaluate and create.

“Utilizing the case method and team-based-project requires HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) which accommodates Bloom’s Level 4 taxonomy, namely the ability to analyze, synthesize, evaluate and create. In particular, the ability to create for students must be achieved. Students must be able to analyze contextual problems which are then able to evaluate various alternative solutions,” explained Dr. Wagiran.

Furthermore, through the formulation of this learning design, a learning activity is needed that supports the achievement of the ability to analyze and evaluate. The application of appropriate learning activities is an important point in the case method and team-based project. Thus, lecturers and vocational teachers need to design learning activities that are by the weight of the learning burden of the course or subject.

With this workshop, lecturers and vocational teachers will obtain very valuable key information in designing RPS/RPP through the formulation of the right CPMK and sub-CPMK. The preparation of appropriate learning indicators will affect the preparation of learning activities. PTB FKIP UNS Study Program hopes that this activity can be a provision for lecturers and teachers to develop dynamic learning through case methods and team-based projects.
