FKIP – The Mathematics Education Student Association (Himmadika) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Grand Opening PKM Training with the theme “The Youth of Math, Join Us, and Let’s Practice”. This event was held online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (2/7/2022).

The event, which was hosted by Nesthi Wahyuningsih, presented two speakers. The resource persons were Iksan Riva Nanda as an Outstanding Student of FKIP UNS 2022 and Bisri Musa Azhari as a 2017 Mathematics Education Study Program student.

In his presentation, Iksan Riva Nanda conveyed the general material of the Student Creativity Week (PKM) Training. He explained the meaning of PKM according to the manual and the version of PKM based on his experience, that PKM is an acceleration of achievement with harmonization and prestige.

“PKM is a manifestation of the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education issued by the Directorate General of Higher Education in 2022 under the management of Belmawa with the aim of being an effort to grow, accommodate, and realize students’ creative and innovative ideas. Something like that according to the manual. But there are Another definition in my opinion, this might appear and be born based on my experience. So this PKM is an acceleration of achievement with harmonization and prestige, “he explained.

He explained that acceleration is the expansion of ideas, making proposals by requiring scenarios, making it simple, useful or not, time and perseverance, and if you don’t pass the funding, you can enter the competition according to the format. Achievements, namely realizing the goals and outputs of the proposal when it passes funding, such as progress reports, final reports, and special products. From the outputs of this PKM, you can get IPR, scientific articles, posters, research data materials that can be contested, or thesis recognition. Harmonization means getting soft skills, such as creative thinking, critical thinking, high order thinking skills, to hard skills, such as coding, programs, and websites. Prestige means that PKM is the most prestigious Kemendikbudristek event attended by universities in Indonesia.

Furthermore, Iksan explained about the types of PKM, the flow of PKM implementation, criteria for proposers, proposal systematics, proposal evaluation and funding determination, proposal making, preparation of proposal preparation, and how to explore ideas.

The second resource person is Bisri Musa Azhari with material on motivation to join PKM. In this second session, Bisri told about his journey to get PKM-PM funding in 2021 with the title “STEAM and MIKiR-Based Comic Worksheet: Efforts to Improve Literacy and Numeracy Skills for Elementary Age Children in Jeron Village”.

Furthermore, Bisri also talked about the reasons why students should take PKM, which according to him is based on two questions, namely why they have to look for ideas and why they have to write them down, so that these ideas are not just wishful thinking or discourse, but are implemented through the PKM program.

At the end of the presentation, Bisri gave a little motivation to the participants of the Grand Opening PKM Training.

“If the best graduates can be found by graduates who have more experience, then the best graduates who have a lot of experience will be difficult to deal with,” he said.
