FKIP – Wednesday (14/9/2022), the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an
online guest lecture through the Zoom Meeting application. The guest lecture carried the theme “Guess Lecture on Understanding the Interdisciplinary Concepts and Designing the Curriculum for Teaching and Learning Integrative Biology-Sciences”.

This guest lecture was opened directly by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si. In his speech, he expressed his aspirations for the implementation of this activity. Then, he also explained the demands and challenges in the post-pandemic era, especially in the education sector.
“We express our appreciation to the Biology Education Study Program, FKIP UNS, who successfully held this activity. In the post-covid-19 era which has had many impacts, it requires us to work together in various multidisciplinary fields, including in the education sector. Our current education applies the Independent Learning curriculum, of course, there are many new challenges and opportunities. Therefore, we need a learning design that is in line with the concept of Merdeka Learning,” explained Dr. Mardiyana.

Moderated by Murni Ramli, ED as Lecturer of Biology Education Study Program, FKIP UNS, this guest lecture presented a speaker. She is Dr. Zainun Muatafa who is a Researcher at the Special Training and Research Division of SEAMEO RECSAM.
At the beginning of the presentation, Dr. Zainun provides an overview of the concept of interdisciplinary. According to him, the interdisciplinary concept involves several disciplines that are integrated.
“The interdisciplinary concept involves several disciplines that are integrated. The interdisciplinary concept is applied in the integrated teaching and learning process between subjects. Students learn concepts and skills from two or more disciplines that are closely related so that they can deepen them, “explained Dr. Zainun.
Furthermore, she also explained the description of STEM adoption, the application of interdisciplinary science lessons, to the concept of Problem Based Learning (PBL). She said that an example of interdisciplinary application in biology is the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method.
“How to apply interdisciplinary science or biology lessons, one of which is Problem Based Learning (PBL). PBL starts from a problem that becomes the main focus and learning progress leads to solving that problem. The steps taken are Understand the Problem, Explore the Curriculum, and Problem Solving,” explained Dr. Zainun.
After the presentation of the material by Dr. Zainun, the event continued with a question-and-answer discussion session guided by a moderator. The guest lecture of the Biology Education Study Program, FKIP UNS, ended with a joint documentation session.
