HUMAS FKIP – The team from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won 1st place in the National Competition for Learning Media Design for FKIP Students in Indonesia. The team consisted of Agnes Dinar Nugraheni and Anggita Puji Lestari from the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD).

The competition was held at the University of Nusa Cendana (Undana), Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara on August and was attended by 34 teams of FKIP students throughout Indonesia. The competition was conducted in two stages, namely the preliminary and final stages. Agnes explained that they created an information technology-based learning media called Meksis.

“We created an IT-based learning media with the name Meksis. It is an acronym for knowing the surrounding ecosystem. This learning media targets the high class, especially the fifth grade of elementary school. We took the ecosystem theme,” explained Agnes when interviewed by the fkip.uns.ac.id team on Tuesday (27/9/2022).

Agnes explained that her reason for participating in this competition stemmed from her fun including the output of one of her courses.

“So, in the fourth semester, there is a learning media course. One of the final examination outputs is making IT-based learning media. Because I have made the media, there happened to be a learning media competition, so I took the initiative instead of the learning media that I made stop there,” she explained.

Next, Agnes explained that the media being contested was a learning application specifically designed for Android and could be used offline.

“This is a special learning application for Android that can be used offline. We design it in such a way that this learning media presents fun learning. So, the model is learning while playing,” said Agnes.

The features presented in the application consist of learning objectives, materials, practice questions, games, glossaries, and profiles of application developers.

Agnes feels grateful and lucky to get 1st place in this competition. She didn’t think that her fidgeting in taking coursework could lead her to win the championship.

“Honestly, I didn’t think it was because it started on a whim. It’s a shame if the learning media is idle, it’s limited to coursework and final examination assignments, so it’s an initiative. At first, I didn’t expect anything but thank God, I got into the final and got 1st place, I feel very lucky,” said Agnes.

Meanwhile, Anggita hopes that in the future she can continue to innovate and be creative.

“Hopefully in the future, I can continue to innovate and create even better,” she concluded.
