HUMAS FKIP – Petungkriyono Sub-district, Pekalongan Regency, still leaves natural forest ecosystems that are managed in the format of a special Ecological Area (KEK) or commonly referred to as National Nature Heritage. As a non-conserved area, the area is very vulnerable to forest damage if the awareness of forest stakeholders is low. To raise public awareness of group conservation, researchers in the field of biosystematics and ecological system studies from the Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta Biology Education Study Program held community service activities in the form of implementing conservation education for schools in special ecological areas, namely the School State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Petungkriyono, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. The activity takes place from April 2022 and ends on Sunday (30/10/2022).

This service activity was funded by a grant scheme for the Research Group Strengthening Program (PKM) and Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) for the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) UNS. Service activities in the form of implementing creative learning designs that involve elements of school management, teachers, and students at SMAN 1 Petungkriyono.

Meanwhile, the activities carried out include joint planning between school management and teachers to develop learning models with specific conservation objectives, model development, creative learning media with the aim of increasing conservation awareness, and implementing classroom learning. The service activities carried out offline provide benefits to school management and teachers related to several creative learning models and media.

Service activities are also useful for diffusing conservation materials to initiate conservation awareness among high school students as the next generation of forest stakeholders. Puguh Karyanto, Ph.D., as one of the Lecturers of the Biology Education Study Program, explained that the learning achievement indicators set can initiate early awareness of conservation.

“Learning achievement indicators that are set can initiate early awareness of conservation which is indicated by the readiness to change behavior after learning. Readiness to behave in a positive conservation is shown through the measurement of readiness to behave in conservation or intention to behave aligned with conservation which is measured by the NEP scale developed by Dunlap,“ explained Puguh.

According to Puguh, the activity went very well with a high level of enthusiasm from the school management, teachers, and students. Continuous benefits in the form of smart application creator-based learning media for schools are provided and can be accessed at any time via the link created at
