FKIP – Mechanical Engineering Education Student Community (Compression) Faculty of Teaching and Science Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Back to Campus Alumni webinar with the theme “Opportunities for PTM Graduates in Industry and Education” on Sunday (27/11/2022). This webinar was held online through a Zoom Meeting by inviting Khaniffudin, S.Pd. alumni of PTM UNS 2013 and Rusdan Aditya Aji Nugroho S.Pd., M.Sc. alumni of PTM UNS 2014.
The first session was filled by Khaniffudin, S.Pd. as an instructor at PT. Riung Mitra Lestari. In his presentation, Khanifudin explained the instructor’s work in the mining world. The instructor’s work includes training planning, heavy equipment training (skill up), observation of operating technique methods, recruitment, evaluation, and monitoring skills. In addition, Khaniffudin said that
PTM graduates have a lot of potentials that graduates do not have. pure mechanical engineering. So according to him, it is a mistake if there are PTM students who are not confident about PTM themselves.
“There are many younger siblings who are not confident about PTM graduates, for me that is a pretty big mistake. PTM graduates have a lot of potentials that other mechanical engineering or pure mechanical engineering graduates don’t have. You at PTM are also taught pure techniques, but they are also taught how to deal with people, and how to develop people, that’s what’s very important. When we work, but we don’t know how to deal with people, that’s a mistake, now in PTM you are taught and equipped before you graduate.” he said.

Furthermore, Khaniffudin explained that for PTM graduates to be able to work in mining there are no special qualifications. Because according to him, the company will see the opportunity and seriousness of the prospective applicants, strong desire, high willingness to learn, considerable abilities, and health.
“In my view, there are no special qualifications for PTM to be able to work in mining, it just depends on us, our sincerity, do we want to enter the industrial world?” he explained.
In the second presentation, Rusdan Aditya Aji Nugroho S.Pd., M.Sc. explained opportunities to continue studying abroad for PTM UNS alumni. He recounted his experience when studying PTM FKIP UNS S1 for Master’s and Doctoral degrees at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Taiwan. He also shared tips and tricks for preparing to continue studying abroad, namely prepare yourself, research campuses and majors, look for advisors, and apply.
Apart from that, one thing that is no less important to continue studying abroad is scholarships. Rusdan Aditya gave suggestions for compiling and multiplying your profile so that later it would be easier to get scholarships because according to him scholarships were not sought, but scholarships that would find recipients.
“First, sort out your timeline, add more profiles, add more CVs, such as scientific work or taking part in PIMNAS. Now, complete your CV like that, if your CV is like that, your profile is good, scholarships will be looking for you, not you who are looking for scholarships,” he concluded.
The webinar ended with a closing statement from Rusdan Aditya.
“Prepare each of you, setting your goals, in the future is in your own hands. After you have your own goals, then program what individual development you need, and what you want, be prepared! If all of that is done it’s organized, you just have to follow the steps. When the scheme is finished, the timeline is clear, and God willing, it will run smoothly. Lastly, don’t forget to pray for your parents,” he concluded.
