FKIP – Study Program (Prodi) Economic Education Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a guest lecture on Monday (13/3/2023). Carrying the theme “Teacher’s Role in Facing Free Learning Innovation”, the guest lecture was held online via the Zoom Meeting application and broadcast live on the Himannomi UNS Youtube account.

The Deputy Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc, opened this guest lecture. In his speech, he said that innovation is an important variable for a teacher to explore.

“A teacher must educate the nation’s life through teaching and education. A teacher must read the changes that exist. This change is eternal. This change for a teacher has a very important variable to explore to increase his role and become a good facilitator for our students, namely innovation,” said Prof. Slamet.

Moderated by Dr. Lenny Noviani, M.Sc., a Lecturer in the Economics Education Study Program FKIP UNS, this guest lecture presented a guest speaker. The speaker is Reisky Bestary, M.Pd. She is the Head of the Riau Province Mobilization Teacher Center.

In her presentation, she presented material entitled “Teacher’s Role in Facing Free Learning Innovation”. She started the material by explaining the vision of the Pre-service PPG transformation and the direction of a new model of Pre-service PPG policy.

“The first vision of Pre-service PPG transformation is to create a professional novice teacher profile. Then, the second vision is to form a self-sustaining teacher education ecosystem in each province,” Reisky explained.

Based on Reisky’s explanation, the profile of a professional novice teacher is a novice teacher who practices Pancasila values, masters essential teacher competencies, is primarily student-oriented and student-learning, is committed to being a role model and a lifelong learner, and has the basics of leadership. Meanwhile, a self-sustaining teacher education ecosystem is an ecosystem that can meet the supply and demand of teacher needs in a sustainable quantity and quality.

Furthermore, she explained material on differentiated learning, the diversity of students, the freedom of teachers in Merdeka Belajar, the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka, to the challenges and obstacles of teachers in implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka.

After the material presentation session, this public lecture was followed by a question and answer session and ended with a documentation session.
