FKIP – Wednesday (5/4/2023), the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta had the opportunity to become a person in charge (PIC) for one of UNS’ routine activities, namely the Study on Approaching Iftar. Carrying the theme “Implications of Fasting on Character Education”, the study was held online through the Zoom Meeting application.
The study was moderated by Dr. Djono, M.Pd., Deputy Dean of Planning, Business Cooperation, and Information FKIP UNS. The study began with remarks by the Deputy Chancellor for General Affairs and Human Resources, Prof. Dr. Bandi, M.Sc., Ak. In his remarks, he explained the activities of this study.
“This Study Before Iftar is a routine activity held by UNS during the month of Ramadan on Wednesday. Activities are conducted online for leaders, lecturers, and academic staff and offline for the public, especially students at the Nurul Huda UNS Mosque. On this day, we would like to thank FKIP UNS for carrying out the PIC duties,” said Prof. Bandi.
The activity was continued with remarks by the Dean of FKIP UNS who was represented by Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc. as Deputy Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs. He welcomed and thanked the study participants. He hopes this activity can strengthen friendship and increase purity.
“We would like to welcome and thank all UNS academics in our faculties through a virtual meeting at the study ahead of Iftar. This activity is a place to study. Whoever seeks knowledge, Allah will raise his rank and whoever wants to be happy in this world and in the hereafter needs knowledge. We hope this activity can strengthen friendship and increase our purity,” said Prof. Slamet.
After that, there was a session of reading recitations of the Alquran by Detria Nur Aini Sutrisno as an FKIP UNS student and continued with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Joko Nurkamto, M.Pd. who is a Lecturer at FKIP UNS. He explained the cult with a theme according to the theme, namely “Implications of Fasting on Character Education”.

Prof. Joko divided the material into 3 topics: the concept of Ramadan fasting, character education, and fasting as a means of character education. On topic 1, Prof. Joko conveyed material regarding the general description of the month of Ramadan, the meaning of fasting, the command to fast, the length of fasting, the features of fasting, and to fasting Ramadan as one of the pillars of Islam.
On the next topic, Prof. Joko explained the concepts and characteristics of the character, an overview of character education, the importance of character education, character and success, the purpose of fasting, indicators of purity, to activities in the month of Ramadan. Finally, Prof. Joko ended his presentation by giving a conclusion.
“By fasting in Ramadan, we are trained to be patient, honest, generous, sincere, and other goods, all of which are attributes of a good person. Therefore, education and training during Ramadan are expected to be continued in the following months so that we can always become better individuals,” concluded Prof. Joko.
