FKIP UNS – Group Research Team (GR) for Special Education Services for Special Education (PLB) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a community service with the theme “Assisting in the Utilization of the SUPERSMART Application in Vocational Placement for Participants Educate Children with Special Needs at Special Schools” at Hotel Laras Asri Resort and Spa Salatiga on Wednesday (12/7/2023). This activity is in partnership with the Salatiga State Extraordinary School (SLBN).
The GR team consisted of several PLB UNS lecturers, namely Dr. Subagya, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S., Priyono, S.Pd., M.Sc., Erma Kumalasari, M.Psi, Psi., and Arsy Anggrellanggi, M.Pd. This activity was attended by 35 Salatiga SLBN teachers. GR Special Education Services intends to accommodate the needs of the Salatiga SLBN by designing activities for using the SUPERSMART application in vocational placements for students with special needs.

This activity begins with a pretest on the Independent Curriculum, vocational identification and assessment, and the SUPERSMART application. Next, Dr. Subagya provided material related to the Special Education Independent Curriculum on the importance of vocational placements. After that, Priyono, M.Si., assisted in the identification and vocational assessment of students with special needs. The material was continued by Erma Kumalasari, M.Psi., Psi. who helps use the SUPERSMART application in vocational placements of students with special needs.
Arsy explained that it is important to know the talents and interests of students so that teachers can determine vocational programs.
“SLB teachers have the additional task of identifying and assessing students with special needs. The accuracy of the identification and assessment results will determine the problems, potentials, obstacles, and needs of PDBK so that the teacher can determine the right and appropriate intervention as a form of intervention. Each student has various characteristics, abilities, talents, and interests. By knowing the talents and interests of students, teachers can determine students’ talent and interest or vocational development programs more precisely and accordingly,” said Arsy, Tuesday (12/7/2023).
The existence of this SUPERSMART application can facilitate the teacher’s task in vocational placement for students. Furthermore, Arsy explained that the conditions in the field showed that there were still many SLB teachers who had difficulty recognizing the talents and interests of PDBK, so teachers became less able to develop a talent development program and interest in PDBK in SLB. As a result, the talents and interests of PDBK in SLB cannot be optimally developed.
The activity ran smoothly and the participants felt enthusiastic about this activity.
“Participants were enthusiastic about trying the application and asking and answering questions, the activity went smoothly,” said Arsy.
