FKIP – Indonesian continues to experience development along with the times. Teachers are expected to be able to adapt to these changes to create students who are proficient in Indonesian. One form of adaptation to these changes is to improve the quality of learning Indonesian.
This problem inspired the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program Community Service Team to organize a workshop to improve the quality of learning Indonesian. The workshop entitled “Improving the Quality of Learning Indonesian for Elementary School Teachers in Karangpandan District, Karanganyar Regency” was held offline on Thursday (20/07/2023) at SD Negeri 1 Karangpandan.
Chief Executive of Activities, Prof. Dr. Sumarwati. M.Pd. said that the workshop organized by the Linguistics and Applied Literature research group of the PBSI Study Program was an attempt to overcome lost learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Complex Indonesian material also adds to the teacher’s challenges in overcoming this. Therefore, this workshop can increase the readiness of elementary school teachers in Karangpandan District to carry out learning in the post-pandemic period.
This activity was greeted with enthusiasm by all parties involved. The activity was opened by Dra. Tri Sulistiyani as Head of Korwilcam Karangpandan Education District. In his remarks, he encouraged participants to take advantage of the learning opportunities in this activity as best they could.
“I hope that the teachers who are present can take advantage of this opportunity well. The use of Indonesian, moreover practically, still needs to be studied. This activity will be useful if followed properly. So, teachers don’t hesitate to communicate and discuss with the team from UNS during this activity,” said Dra. Tri Sulistiyani.
The workshop was held offline and attended by 30 elementary school teachers in Karangpandan District, Karanganyar Regency. As a follow-up to the offline workshop, the teacher designed materials and assessment instruments to learn Indonesian grammar, language, and literary skills.
The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Sumarwati, M.Pd., opened the workshop by presenting material on “Learning and Assessment of Elementary Grammar Materials”. The next speaker, Dr. Atikah Anindyarini, M.Hum. explained material about “Learning and Assessment of Material Skills in Elementary School”. The last speaker, Dr. Edy Suryanto, M.Pd., shared knowledge about “Learning and Assessment of Literary Skills Material in Elementary Schools”. This activity also involved four students who acted as event guides, ice-breaking guides, and the documentation team.
After attending the workshop, the teachers practiced designing Indonesian language materials and assessment instruments for each material that had been presented. They are required to create Indonesian language assessment materials and instruments which contain learning outcomes or basic competencies, the text being studied, questions or detailed text instructions, and answer keys or assessment rubrics. The team sent the device and gave input, then discussed it synchronously through an online workshop. As a reward, teachers who were active in the workshop were given activity certificates with a value of 32 JP.
