FKIP – Academic, Research, and Student Affairs Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a leadership webinar with the theme “Students Lead Change” through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application on Thursday (15/6/2021).

Moderated by Jonet Ariyanto Nugroho, S.E., M.M., this webinar presented two speakers: Muhammad Farid Sunarto, S.Pd. M.Si. and Prof. Dr. Suyanto, M.M., who presented their insight in around 50 minutes each. The first session was a presentation delivered by Prof. Dr. Suyanto, M.M. as Rector of Amikom Yogyakarta. He emphasized the issue of educational revolution to bring significant change in education practices.

“Why should education change? Because our traditional educational paradigm only emphasizing the domain of cognitive or intellectual dimension. Currently, this domain is strongly promoted in Indonesia educational policy and practices. We are very poor in the sentimental or inspirational dimension. The direction of education must be changed not only for research but also for the human wellbeing,” he explained.

According to Suyanto, a leader who brings about change is a leader who is able to combine four things in his life, namely “Neng, Ning, Nung, and Nang”. The first is Neng or Meneng, that is, our relationship with God is strengthened. The second is Ning or Wening, which is the clarity of heart that can penetrate into the soul. The third is Nung or Hanung, namely the greatness of heart and soul that produces extraordinary intellectuals. The last is Nang or Menang, which means to win outwardly and inwardly.

Furthermore, the second session was deliverd by Muhammad Farid Sunarto, S.Pd. M.Si. as Chairman of the Solo Symphony. In his presentation, Farid emphasized that students have to consistently make a dream to become leaders of change.

“A change leader must dare to dream. If a student dares to dream at the beginning, he will also achieve success at the beginning. Therefore, as a student when you are asked if you are ready to become a change leader, answer yes,” said Farid.

According to Farid, there are five prerequisites for students to lead change. The first prerequisite is mastering 3M (multimedia, multi-platform, and multitasking). The second prerequisite is a good digital personal profiling. The third prerequisite is intelligence and character. The next prerequisite is to be open-minded and critical. Meanwhile, the last prerequisite is curiosity and enthusiasm.

The webinar ended with a question and answer session, documentation, and announcement of the competition organized by the Academic, Research, and Student Affairs of FKIP UNS. The competitions are short film competitions, video microteaching, and student startups. Participants in the competition are educational students as evidenced by a student card. The competition is open until July 23, 2021.
