FKIP – The Mathematics Education, Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Physics Education, and Science Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher and Training (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an international conference titled “The 3rd International Conference on Science, Mathematics, Environment, and Education (ICoSMEE)” on Tuesday-Wednesday (27-28/7/2021).

The 3rd ICoSMEE international conference was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application with the theme “Flexibility in Research and Innovation on Science, Mathematics, Environment, and Education for Sustainable Development”. This conference presented six keynote speakers, four invited speakers, and 207 speakers from four countries that consisted of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Hungary and there were ten parallel presentation sessions in this activity.

The activity began with an opening which included singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya, remarks from the head of the activity, remarks by Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, M. Hum. as the Chancellor of UNS, and playing a traditional dance video with the title Yo Dolanan Kukusan dance.

Dr. Sri Budiawanti, S.Si., M.Sc. in his speech said that ICoSMEE 2021 aims to bring together leading experts, researchers, and experts from various educational backgrounds in the fields of science, mathematics, environment, and education.

“The 2021 ICoSMEE Conference aims to bring together scholars, leading researchers, and experts from various backgrounds and application fields in science, mathematics, environment, and education,” said Dr. Sri Budiawanti, S.Si., M.Sc. as the head of the ICoSMEE 2021 event.

After the opening ceremony, the activity continued with material presentations by keynote speakers. The keynote speaker on the first day was Prof. Gillian Roehrig Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, from the United States of America who presented material on the application and assessment of integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) with a sustainable focus. The second presentation was by Prof. Shiang Yao-Liu from National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. He discussed the material with the title “Teaching Scientific and Environmental Social Issues: From Arguments to a Serious Game Approach”. The event continued with the presentation of the third keynote speaker, namely Dr. Alison Clark Wilson from University College London, United Kingdom who explained STEM education.

On the second day, the conference was attended by key speaker Assoc Prof. Rhyoici Otomo, Ph.D. from Hokkaido University, Japan who presented the material entitled “Catalysts Made from Metal Oxides with Less Stable Valence”. Followed by the presentation of the second keynote speaker, Bagus Putra Muljadi from The University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He presented material with the theme “Modeling Flow and Transport in Porous Media”. The last presentation was presented by Puguh Karyanto, M.Sc., Ph.D. from UNS who presented material with the theme “Modeling of Langur Langur Conservation Presbytis Comate Frederica in Fragmented Forests”.

In addition to presentations by keynote speakers, in this activity parallel presentations were also conducted by presenters. Papers that have been presented and reviewed at this conference will be published in Scopus indexed journals and proceedings.
On this occasion, Prof. Jamal said, hopefully, the results of the research can be used by a wide audience.

“This conference is expected to be a place to exchange ideas, share experiences and ideas, and discuss flexibility in research and innovation in science, mathematics, environment, and education for sustainable development. I hope that this conference will achieve its objectives and the discussion process can run well,” said Prof. Jamal.
