FKIP – The Doctoral Program in Natural Sciences Education Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Doctoral Exam with promovenda Riezky Maya Probosari on Friday (30/7/2021) online through the Zoom Meeting application.

This closed examination was chaired by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Sc., as chairman of the board of examiners. Meanwhile, those who act as examiners from outside UNS were Prof. Dr. Zuhdan Kun Prasetyo, M.Ed. from Yogyakarta State University (UNY), then, there were Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd. and Prof. Dr. Suciati, M.Pd. as examiners from UNS and Prof. Sulistyo Saputro, M.Sc., Ph.D. as examiner of the Doctor of Science Education Program and secretary of the board of examiners. The Doctoral Promotion Examination was also attended by Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Sajidan, M.Si. as a promoter and Prof. Drs. Suranto, M.Sc. Ph.D. as co-promoter I and Dr. Baskoro Adi Prayitno, M.Pd. as co-promoter II.

This exam began with the opening and introduction of the board of examiners by the chairman of the board of examiners. Followed by the presentation of the results of the dissertation by Riezky Maya Probosari for 20 minutes along with the exam. In this exam session, the board of examiners gave responses and questions to the presentation of Riezky’s dissertation results.

In front of the board of examiners, promoters, and invited guests who were present, Riezky presented the results of her dissertation research entitled “Development of Scientific Reading-Based Inquiry Model to Empower Scientific Argumentation Skills in Prospective Science Teachers”. In her presentation, Riezky explained that the background for choosing the topic in the research was the gap between ideal science learning and its implementation.

“So, the background underlying this research is a gap. So, here there is a phenomenon that what the ideal science learning looks like and what its implementation looks like. Ideally, science learning should build knowledge through theory and practice in accordance with the nature of science,” Riezky explained.

At the end of the activity, Riezky graduated with a very satisfactory predicate with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.93 but because the study period was more than four years, she could not graduate with cum laude.

“That based on the assessment of the examiner lecturers and based on the work of Mrs. Riezky so far, Mrs. Riezky’s status graduated with a very satisfactory predicate with a GPA of 3.93. However, because the study period was more than four years, it cannot be declared cum laude,” said Dr. Mardiyana as chairman of the board of examiners in this closed exam.
