FKIP – Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an International Journal Writing Workshop which was held online on Saturday (28/8/2021). This activity was a series of SEWORD FRESSH #3 activities organized with the Association of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Lecturers (ADOBSI) and the Association of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Programs (IKSPROBSI).

This workshop activity presented three speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Anwar Efendi, M.Si. from Yogyakarta State University (UNY), Dr. Sultan, M.Pd. from Makassar State University (UNM), and Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, M. Hum. from UNS. These three speakers are experts in the field of scientific writing, have many international publications, become journal reviewers, as well as managers of reputable national journals.

The first workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Anwar Efendi, M.Si. He brought good and interesting material about journal writing.

“Good writing is writing that is finished and interesting issues and novelty findings are one way to attract the hearts of editors and reviewers,” he said.

He also provides tips on how to improve the quality of the manuscript, namely removing the name of the research location in the title, changing the institutional title formulation to be conceptual or theoretical, changing the exposure to the research context in the introduction and the conclusion formulation being more conceptual or theoretical, and comparing research findings with other reputable journals.

Then, the presentation of the second speaker was delivered by Dr. Sultan, M.Pd. which describes the material on the strategy of publishing articles in reputable international journals. He explained the strategy to be able to penetrate reputable international journals, namely the attractiveness of the issue and the novelty of the findings. He also explained the technical steps of writing a scientific paper, starting with preparing pictures and tables, writing methods, results, discussions, and conclusions. Then proceed with writing the introduction, abstract, title, keywords, acknowledgments, and references.

Furthermore, the presentation of the material was continued by Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, M. Hum. who brought material about writing scientific journal articles. He explained the obstacles that writers often encounter, namely the lack of ability to capture ideas creatively, not knowing how to execute an effective idea method, thinking too much about fear, feeling that they have to be perfect, and never starting to write. Dr. Kundharu also explained how to develop writing ideas, starting from a theme, then developing it into a topic, then developing it into a title. The workshop activity ended with a question and answer session and a discussion with the audience.
