FKIP – Having an interest in the world of literature, a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, Aji Santoso, won achievements in competitions created a national level short story that he participated in online during 2021.

Starting from giving lecture assignments in the form of making literary works and lots of free time on the sidelines of online lectures, Aji was motivated to hone his literary writing skills and test the quality of his writings by participating in several national level short story writing competitions. As a result, last July, he won 2nd place in the National Short Story Writing Competition AINVENT (Saint Event) organized by the Saint Student Press Institute (LPM) Trunojoyo Madura University.

In the short story creation competition, Aji submitted work with the title Terperangkap Dark Malam. He explained that his short story has a plot that tells the life of a prostitute.

“The short story won 2nd place. The story is about a family without a father, were to support this family, the mother secretly works as a prostitute until her eldest child finds out. After learning about her mother’s occupation, the eldest child leaves the house, but because of a lot of thoughts, the mother finally died plus the HIV virus she suffered. Knowing the news, the eldest returned home to take care of his younger siblings and found out why his mother worked as a prostitute, “explained Aji.

Previously, Aji has also won several national short story writing competitions, including 2nd place in the National Short Story Writing Competition RWC #8 by the Reality Student Activity Unit (UKM) Faculty of Education (FIP) Yogyakarta State University (UNY) in 2021, 1st place National Short Short Story Writing Competition KOMBASI Hima PBSI Wiralodra Indramayu University in 2021, and 1st place in the National Short Short Story Writing Competition by BSO Madura Pintar FIP Trunojoyo Madura University in 2021.

Not only achieving achievements in short story writing competitions, but Aji also won achievements in other non-academic competitions, such as 2nd place in the BIG Indonesian Student Orienteering Competition by the Vocational School of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) for the 2019 student category, 3rd place in the Factpala Orienteering Competition by Mapala Factpala IAIN Purwokerto in 2019, the 3rd winner of the national level LOB by Mapala Brahmahardhika FKIP UNS in 2019, and the 1st place of the Orienteering Sports Feast for the National Junior Category by Mapala KSG SAC FIS Semarang State University (UNNES) in 2019.

In the future, he wants to publish a novel by a major publisher which is compiled based on a combination of modified short stories that won the competition.
