FKIP – Lecturer of Chemical Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta carried out community service for small business companions frozen food Mrs. Linda in Joho Village, Mojolaban District, Sukoharjo Regency for approximately four months, during the months of May-August.

The service carried out by the Natural Products Research Group (RG), Molecular Engineering, and Chemistry Learning was based on the background because Mrs. Linda’s small business (UK) still needs assistance starting from the production process to bookkeeping financial statements.

“UK frozen food Mrs. Linda is still relatively small, both in terms of capital, production, and labor. Equipment in the production process is very limited and simple. A workforce of five people is family members and relatives with technical qualifications as it is. In the packaging process, partners still use ordinary plastic. The financial record management system is also not in accordance with micro-enterprise financial accounting standards,” said Elfi.

With members of Dr. Elfi Susanti V.H., M.Si., Dr.rer.nat., Sri Mulyani, M.Si., Dr. Sri Retno Dwi Ariani, M.Si., and Dr. Suryadi Budi Utomo, the team from the Chemistry Education Study Program carried out a service program with the aim of assisting the use of meat crusher technology and the use of vacuum sealer product packaging tools.

“There are two objectives, firstly, assisting the use of meat crusher technology, so that partners can operate this tool properly so that the production process becomes easier and produces products with more capacity. Second, assistance in the use of product packaging tools vacuum sealer aims that the products produced after vacuum packaging will extend shelf life, maintain the freshness of taste and aroma, and will save preparation space because the packaging is slimmer,” Elfi explained.

Elfi also conveyed the benefits of this community service program. The benefits can be taken for the team and for the target.

“There are three benefits for the team, firstly developing the awareness and sensitivity of the academic community, especially UNS Chemistry Education Study Program on various problems of social life. Second, encourage the development of new ideas and community service resources, especially in entrepreneurship. Third, develop a network of community service collaborations with various community groups. The benefit for the target is an increase in the quality and quantity of frozen food products produced,” said Elfi.

At the end of the interview session, Elfi explained the series of service activities that had been carried out.

“The activity begins with coordination with partners. Second, the development of training modules. Furthermore, mentoring activities are in the form of training and assistance in the use of production process technology and product packaging in a vacuum, namely mentoring. Then, monitoring and evaluation,” Elfi concluded.
