FKIP – Postgraduate Study Program (S-2) English Language Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Journal Webinar for the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) UNS with the theme “The Potion to Face Rejection and Successful Publication in Indexed and Reputable Journals” online on Saturday (4/09/2021) via the Zoom Meeting application.
Moderated by Ira Trihapsari as the recipient of the UNS LPDP scholarship, the webinar was opened by singing the anthem Indonesia Raya and Mars LPDP. After that, the activity continued with remarks from the chairman of the committee and the Head of LPDP UNS. Danan Tricahyono as Head of LPDP UNS in his speech explained that the purpose of this webinar was to provide information to LPDP scholarship recipients and general students regarding the stages of scientific publication and how to avoid rejection when submitting articles in a journal.
“In detail, the purpose of holding this activity is to provide information to LPDP awardees, as well as general students about things that must be prepared before the publication of articles, provide information about the stages that must be passed for publication, and provide an overview of tips to avoid rejection when sending articles in a journal,” explained Tri.
Next, the activity continued with the presentation of the material. Meanwhile, the presenters in this webinar are Dr. Rizal Perdana, S.Pd., M.Pd. He is the youngest doctoral degree winner at UNS and the recipient of an LPDP scholarship. The presentation of the material in this webinar was divided into two sessions, namely the presentation of the first material entitled “Success of Publication in Indexed and Reputable Journals” and the presentation of the second material with the theme “Potions for Facing Rejection”.

In the first material presentation session, Rizal presented material on various research focuses, reasons why should write, obstacles in writing, and the rules of articles for publication. At the end of the presentation, Rizal invited the participants to immediately try writing, not waiting to feel they could.
“Start writing immediately, don’t wait until you feel you can. Do it now! Good luck,” said Rizal.
Before entering the second material presentation session, there is a quiz for participants to measure their understanding of the material presented. Then, the activity continued with the second material presentation session. In the second material presentation session, Rizal presented material on the preliminary rhetoric of the manuscript which included the stages and steps of the John Swales CARS Method.
“The CARS (Creating A Research Space) model is a super short, concise, and clear script, writing model. This model was written by Mr. John Swales in 1990. This model consists of three moves or stages and several steps. In the book written by Arsyad, namely Writing International Journal Articles with English Rhetoric Style, precisely on page 74 it is stated that this model aims to describe in more detail each stage so that it is easier to communicate,” said Rizal.
In the second material presentation session, Rizal also explained how to do citations for references, as well as examples of automatic citation changes and bibliography. After the presentation of the material, the webinar was followed by a question and answer session guided by the moderator and closed with a documentation and closing session by the presenters.
