FKIP – Masters in Educational Technology, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a public lecture on education experts at UNS with the theme “Technology Trends in Education in the Digital Era” online via Zoom Cloud Meeting on Thursday (23/9/2021).

The event began with remarks by Dr. Triana Rejekiningsih, M.Pd. as the Head of the Master of Education Technology Study Program. In his speech, Dr. Triana conveyed the purpose of holding this public lecture.

“This public lecture is held to improve students’ skills and competencies in mastering current educational technology to improve the quality of education,” said Dr. Triana.

This activity was officially opened by Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si as the Dean of FKIP UNS. Moderated by Dr. Eka Budhi S, this activity presented two speakers, namely Alpha Amirrachman M.Phil, Ph.D. as director of SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, and Prof. Sajidan, M.Si as the Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information at UNS.

The first speaker delivered the material with the title “Development of Distance Learning in Higher Education”. Alpha started the material by conveying the impact and condition of education in various Southeast Asian countries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Next, Alpha presents the problems faced by higher education. “The problems faced by higher education are that all universities are closed, massive changes to distance education, online learning, e-learning, and multimode. Next is the issue of equity and flexibility,” explained Alpha.

In the next material, Alpha conveyed the program from SEAMOLEC which was provided to assist higher education in Indonesia, and the good practice of PTJJ SEAMOLEC’s initiative at one university.

The second speaker delivered material entitled Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) stimulation in digital learning. Prof. Sajidan started the material by presenting the skill data needed in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era.

“Of the 10 skills that must be mastered, one of them is HOTS. The key is an innovation made by people in the field of education,” said Prof. Sajidan.

Furthermore, Prof. Sajidan presented material on the relationship between Bloom’s taxonomy and HOTS, activities with digital tools, the application of HOTS through synchronous and asynchronous methods, and provided examples of related research.
