FKIP – Lecturer of Chemistry Education Study Program The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta which is a member of the Natural Products Research Group, Molecular Engineering, and Chemistry Learning carries out Training and Assistance in the Production of Lempuyang Wangi Essential Oil (Zingiber aromaticum Val.) and Product Marketing Strategies Online Through Marketplace at UKM Suti Sehati in Kec. Nguter Sukoharjo.

This service activity lasts for six months starting from July 2021 to December 2021. The team with members of Dr. Sri Retno Dwi Ariani, S.Si, M.Si, and Dr. Endang Sutilowati, S.Si., M.Si. took two students, Poppy Rahmatul Hadja and Septian Dwi Budi Pra to participate. This service activity was carried out at Suti Sehati’s Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM), Pengkol Village, Nguter, Sukoharjo, Central Java.

The reason behind this service is that UKM Suti Sehati has not been able to produce the main raw material for aromatherapy wind oil. The team found many TOGA plants around the service location, one of which was lempuyang fragrant which had not been used optimally. In addition, SME Suti Sehati cannot yet market online through the marketplace.

The purpose of this service can be viewed from two aspects, namely the production aspect and the marketing aspect. From the production aspect, carrying out counseling, training, and mentoring activities for UKM Suti Sehati regarding the processing of raw materials for lempuyang fragrant rhizomes into fragrant lempuyang essential oil (MALW) products through isolation techniques using the distillation method. Meanwhile, from the marketing aspect, implementing counseling, training, and mentoring for UKM Suti Sehati regarding online marketing through the marketplace for the products produced by UKM Suti Sehati.

The team’s hope from this service activity is that it can increase the ability in the field of producing lempuyang fragrant rhizome essential oil as a raw material for aromatherapy wind oil, expand the market, and increase the income of SMEs. For researchers, this activity is useful as a means to implement research results, increase relationships, and contribute to the welfare of the nation.

This activity went through seven stages, starting with the implementation of socialization and program coordination, followed by the handover of the distillation equipment. Then, the implementation of counseling, training, and assistance in harvesting, sorting, processing of fragrant lempuyang rhizomes from wet form to simplicia to powder, as well as extraction techniques of fragrant lempuyang rhizome essential oil using the distillation method. Then, carry out counseling, training, and online marketing assistance through the marketplace (Shopee), and end with an evaluation.
