FKIP – Master Degree of Biology Education Study Program held an online citation management webinar via Zoom Meeting and broadcast live via YouTube channel on Tuesday (5/10/2021).

This activity presents resource persons who are competent in their fields, namely Dr. Bowo Sugiharto, S.Pd., M.Pd. as Head of the Master Degree of Biology Education Study Program. Before delivering the material, Bowo conveyed the purpose of this activity.

“We plan at least once a month to hold scientific activities like this with the hope of broadening the horizons and insights of students in the academic world,” said Bowo.

Furthermore, Bowo conveyed the reason for the material that was brought entitled “Citation Management”. He said that this was related to efforts to improve students’ skills in finding references, managing, and utilizing data.

In his presentation, Bowo started the material by conveying the meaning of citation management. To clarify his presentation, Bowo immediately gave examples related to the material presented.

“We interpret citation management as an activity to find, store, manage, and utilize reference sources to support scientific writing,” explained Bowo.

Furthermore, Bowo conveyed about the application of citation management with Microsoft Office Word. Bowo explains the steps that must be taken, namely by utilizing the references feature. In addition, Bowo also conveyed the advantages and disadvantages of this feature as well as the writing style that must be used if students want to submit journal articles.

“If you want to submit journal articles, use the style surrounding the journal you are aiming for. Use a reference manager application so you don’t have to remember or memorize how to write each style. Just change it according to the style you want, “said Bowo.

The activity continued with the practice of using the Mendeley application which was followed by all participants. In addition to demonstrating the use of the Mendeley application, Bowo also shared how to use the publish or perish application as an alternative to searching for data.
