FKIP – Master Program (S-2) Indonesian Language Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta holds training activities and assists in writing articles in indexed journals Sinta and Scopus. The activity was held at Building E FKIP UNS on Saturday (16/07/2022).

This activity presented two resource persons, namely Dr. R. Kunjana Rahardi, M. Hum., as Lecturer at Sanata Dharma University and Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M. Hum., as Lecturer at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Salatiga. Both speakers are experts in the field of journal article writing and are managers of reputable journals. This activity was moderated by Chafit Ulya, S.Pd., M.Pd., as a Lecturer of Indonesian Language Education FKIP UNS.

The activity started with a speech. The first speech was delivered by Dr. Sumarwati, M.Pd. He conveyed the reason for the implementation of this activity because of the finding that S-2 students had problems graduating on time.

“This activity is a follow-up from the GKM team that there are obstacles for students to graduate on time. Generally, problems are encountered because students have difficulty writing articles published in international journals indexed by Scopus. Hopefully, this activity can increase students’ knowledge and insight so that they can successfully pursue their studies, “explained Dr. Sumarwati as Head of Study Program (Kaprodi) Indonesian Language Education Masters.

Furthermore, the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana explained that it is not easy to be able to write articles published in reputable journals, but by practicing diligently, you will definitely be biased.

“Writing articles in reputable scientific journals is not easy, but with a lot of study and practice, you can do it. Moreover, if you want to become a lecturer, the priority is of course those who have scientific publications, at least national publications in reputable journals, “explained Dr. Mardiyana.

Then, the activity continued with material presentation by Dr. Kunjana. He explained that one of the reasons it was difficult to write was because of the lack of reading. Generally, the difficulties encountered are the difficulty of finding novelty, both in terms of methods, data, problems, and theories. Dr. Kunjana also shared tips on articles that could potentially be accepted in indexed journals.

The tips that are shared include research that must contain the latest in science and technology, accuracy of point of view, do not write the general and mediocre, the findings must be new, full of novelty and novelty, completion of cultivation, nature, substance and feasibility, the article puts forward objectivity, must not be subjective, and must be supported by relevant theories.

Furthermore, articles must also have arguments that cannot be separated from data, be rational, read more to like writing, avoid copy and paste, fulfill the principles of clarity, completeness, and conciseness, data concepts, and relevance to certain fields of science.

Furthermore, the material was presented by Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M.Hum., who explained the technical publications in journals and the problems they faced.

“Some of the problems in scientific publications include how to choose a journal, the submission process, compliance with article quality and format standards, data adequacy, suitability and depth of analysis, writing in English that meets journal standards, patience in waiting for results, and steadfastness in revising,” he explained.
