FKIP – Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret ( UNS) Surakarta held the National Seminar on Biology Education (Sembio) XVII online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (9/10/2021).

The activity lasted for two days, from 9-10 October 2021. The theme of this seminar was Innovation and Adaptation of Learning, Research, and Community Service in the Field of Biology and Biology Education in the Pandemic Era. A series of activities in the form of general session presentations and parallel sessions. In the general session, there were presentations from several resource persons, while in the parallel session there were presenters who presented their research.

The activity was opened with remarks by Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Si. as Deputy Dean for Academic, Research and Student Affairs. “We are all challenged to be able to do research, to solve problems from the point of view of biology, science, learning, and society at large,” said Prof. Slamet.

Furthermore, the presentation by the first resource person, Dr. Slamet Santosa, M.Sc. In this session, the activities were guided by Dr. Meti Indrowati, M.Sc. as moderator. The material presented by the first resource person was themed “The Role of Potential Microbes for Environmental Improvement”.

In his presentation, Slamet explained the efforts that can be made to improve the quality of agricultural soil through the use of organic fertilizers, the use of biological fertilizers, and the use of insecticides.

The second resource person is Adhi Nurcholis M.Sc. In this session, the discussion was guided by Dr. Uni Fatmawati, M.Sc. as moderator. The theme in this second session is potato seed using tissue culture. Adhi started the presentation by presenting facts about the condition of potato farming in Wonosobo before PB was introduced. The last resource person on the first day was Alfan Pujo Laksono, M.Ds. The discussion in this session was guided by moderator Candra Adi Prabowo M.Pd. The material presented by Alfan was the development of a virtual laboratory to support students’ science process skills in the pandemic era with the title “Optimizing Science & Biology Learning with 3D XR Technology”.

“Before the pandemic, there were many rejections for various reasons. But after the pandemic, we were forced to become familiar with these things,” said Candra.

After each resource person delivered the material and conducted a question and answer session, the activity continued with a parallel research presentation with a break out room system. The activity was closed by the moderator in each breakout room.
