The activity was carried out in the form of theoretical training by the Klaten SAR team, followed by direct training at the Tirta Kamandanu swimming pool, Nganjat Village, Polanharjo District, Klaten Regency.

The KKN 149 group is chaired by Rachmat Bayu Tyastomo (FP) and guided by Prof. Dr. Ir. Sudibya, MS as the field supervisor. The 149 KKN members are Gregorius Moses (FT), Laili Nur Fatikhah (FMIPA), Indah Permatasari (FMIPA), Ika Wahyuningsih (FP), Hessa Fadhela Putri (FKIP), Amarla Rachel Listi Arta (FKIP), Ivana Amelia Haryanto Putri. (FISIP), Hafizh Bari’tasakura (FSRD), and Rizky Marchal Putra Al-Fateha (FISIP).

This rescue training activity with the Klaten SAR team was carried out as a measure to anticipate potential accidents in water areas, especially in the Water Tourism Village. This training is also intended to increase the alertness of youth members, especially those on duty at the Tirta Kamandanu swimming pool, Nganjat Village.

Haryo, the Klaten SAR team, said that his team was very happy to be involved in rescue education in this water tourism area.

“We are very happy to be able to help UNS KKN students and Nganjat Village residents, especially about learning how to do water rescues in water tourism, one of which is the swimming pool,” said Haryo.

Haryo explained that this training activity is very important to be scheduled by every village or area that has water areas like Nganjat Village. Haryo also appreciated the enthusiasm of the youth organizations who actively asked questions and followed the activities to completion.

The rescue training activity by the UNS 149 KKN Group for the January-March 2022 period also received a positive response from residents.

“This work program is very useful, especially for the youth organizations in Nganjat Village and we fully support this activity. This is the first time this activity has been carried out and we appreciate the efforts of KKN students who are collaborating with SAR Klaten in carrying out this training,” said Tommy Azi, Head of the Nganjat Village Youth Organization.

Dozens of youths were taught techniques to save victims in the waters by using a swimming pool as a simulation site. The Klaten SAR team also brought many supporting equipment such as life jackets, life tubes, throwing ropes, and other types of buoys.

The training activities in the swimming pool started with swimming a distance of 200 meters, holding the breath in water for 10 minutes, floating for 10 minutes, and simulating victim rescue using various tools.

“The choice of this work program is none other than if something unexpected happens in the future, the swimming pool staff can help as taught,” said Gregorius Moses, a student from Group 149 KKN UNS.

In addition to the rescue training program with the Klaten SAR, the 149 KKN UNS Group also held various activities such as socializing the tourist village website, making murals, procurement of trash cans, procurement of books for schools, notification of tourist villages, Covid socialization, mosque clean programs, beauty class programs, and short film appreciation.
