FKIP — Professor of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (Prodi) as well as Head of Study Program (Kaprodi) Doctor of Indonesian Language Education (PBI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. . Dr. Andayani, M.Pd., presented material entitled “Building a New Paradigm of Learning Indonesian Language and Literature”. He conveyed this in an Expert Lecture by the Association of Indonesian Language and Literature Lecturers (Adobsi) with the theme “Strategy for Implementing Language and Literature Teaching in Building a New Paradigm” on Thursday (19/1/2023) via Zoom Meeting.

Moderated by Elen Inderasari, S.Pd., M.Pd. who is a Lecturer in the Indonesian Tadris Study Program at the State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Mas Said Surakarta, Prof. Andayani started the presentation of the material by explaining the general description of the new paradigm of learning Indonesian language and literature.

“The new paradigm in learning Indonesian language and literature leads to the formation of assumptions about the world of learning Indonesian language and literature. The presence of a new paradigm is due to the first, there is a first generation change in the form of a change from the print era to the visual direction. Second, there is a change in the second generation, namely the visual generation towards digital. Third, there is a change in the third generation, namely digital towards social,” said Prof. Andayani.

Furthermore, Prof. Andayani also explained the impact of the presence of a new paradigm on learning Indonesian language and literature. According to him, the presence of this new paradigm demands changes in the process of learning Indonesian language and literature.

“What impact does the presence of this new paradigm have on the process of learning Indonesian language and literature? Yes, demanding changes in the process of learning Indonesian language and literature. What must be changed? First, the process of learning Indonesian language and literature must adapt to existing changes. Second, use the foundation to determine the right problems, solutions, and criteria in the learning process. Third, these changes must be based on theory and methods. Finally, broaden and deepen new theories and methods in the learning process,” explained Prof. Andayani.

He also believes that there is not much difference between the fields of language studies and the fields of literature. The field of literature also has high hopes for lecturers to fight for a new paradigm that is appropriate to the era. For example, teaching Indonesian is no longer centered on the educator and the content of teaching materials but has changed to a language learning paradigm that prioritizes the process and the meaningfulness of learning outcomes.

At the end of his presentation session, Prof. You explained the importance of PBSI lecturer expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating the use of digital methods and media.

“However, when building a new paradigm, the expertise of Indonesian Language and Literature Education lecturers is needed in designing, implementing, and evaluating the use of methods and digital media that are effective and efficient. When this has been implemented properly, it will be able to create the ability of students who are proficient in Indonesian. Thus, in addition to improving the quality of human resources, students also have the opportunity to excel and be highly competitive in the world of education and the world of work,” concluded Prof. Andayani.
