FKIP – Student of Geography Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, Salahuddin Jundi Robbani took first place in the canoe competition on Friday (1/4/2022). This competition was held at the UNS lake in the context of the 46th UNS Anniversary.
In general, canoeing is a sport that is carried out in calm water by riding a small boat and rowing it. In contrast to kayak is done in waters that have fast currents.
Jundi, a man who used to be a member of the Brahmahardhika Mapala FKIP UNS told that the beginning of getting to know canoeing was when the UNS lake was renovated. At that time, he and other UNS mapala, such as Brahmahardhika, Gopala Valentara, and Sentraya Bhuana, often practiced canoeing on the UNS lake to refresh or fill their spare time.
“Since then I and my friends from Mapala-mapala throughout UNS, such as Brahmahardhika, Gopala Valentara, and Sentraya Bhuana often practice canoeing on the UNS lake, just for refreshing or to fill spare time,” he said to the fkip.uns.ac.id team.
According to him, this water sport is very interesting for recreational facilities of all ages, from children to adults because it is carried out in calm waters. However, if you want more of a challenge, he recommends trying to learn to kayak.
“Sports such as canoeing are very interesting to do because they can be a means of recreation not only for adults but also for children. If you want a more challenge, you can try learning to kayak where the terrain is in fast-moving waters,” he said.
The activity, which was attended by FKOR students and mapalas throughout UNS such as Brahmahardhika, was opened for the general category. While the technical race is taken the fastest time, from start then around the ball in the middle of the lake and back to start again.
With this competition, he hopes that the campus will provide supporting facilities for mapalas throughout UNS in the form of rubber boats or canoes. This is because of the high enthusiasm of mapalas throughout UNS in the field of water sports. In addition, the facility will also be used to support SAR operations in the event of a flood or water accident.
“Hopefully the campus can facilitate rubber boats or canoes for mapala friends at UNS. Because none of the mapalas at UNS have boats, even though our enthusiasm is very high in the field of water sports and can also support water SAR operations at any time. When there is a flood or water accident in Solo Raya,” he hoped.
