FKIP – English Language Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta in collaboration with the Subject Teacher Consultation (MGMP) of English Junior High School of Education and Culture Wonogiri held a training entitled “Optimization Learning English” online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting on Wednesday (18/8/2021).

The activity was attended by English teachers from Wonogiri Regency, with five sub-districts in Wonogiri Regency. The activity was moderated by Sri Nurharsanti M.Pd. by presenting Hasan Zainnuri as a speaker. The activity, which was held for three days, provided facilities including 3 in service and 1 on service. It was attended by 70 participants. The theme of the training delivered was “Training on Making Interactive Teaching Media with Nearpod”.

The activity began with remarks by Dr. Yuli Bangun Nursanti as Head of the Wonogiri Regency Education and Culture Office. She said that the purpose of this training was to solve distance learning problems during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
“The purpose of this morning’s training is to unravel the problems that exist during the Covid-19 pandemic this time by distance learning. Second, Mr and Mrs create interactive learning media with Nearpod,” said Yuli in her speech.

The event continued with remarks by Dr. Ngadiso, M.Pd. as a representative of S1 English Education FKIP UNS. He hopes that this collaboration will last forever.
“Hopefully, later we can still work together and walk forever until we finish carrying out this mandate,” hoped Dr. Ngadiso.

The material was delivered at the same time with practice. At the beginning of the material, workshop participants were directed to register for a Nearpod account and fill out a questionnaire. Then, Hasan shared the lesson objectives of this workshop, namely identifying problems and strategies in learning English in the Covid-19 pandemic era, as well as studying the description of Gagne’s nine events of instruction.

Hasan said that teachers need to choose the best media to use during learning.

“Many media are available, so please, ladies and gentlemen, choose the best according to you,” said Hasan.

Furthermore, Hasan describes Gagne’s nine events of instruction namely gaining attention, informing learners of the objective, stimulating recall of prior learning, presenting the stimulus, providing learning guidance, electing performance, providing feedback, assessing performance, and enhancing retention and transfer.

“These 9 steps can collaborate with each other. In essence, these 9 steps will be very useful when they can be integrated into online learning, ” Hasan explained.

Hasan explained the available features, informs what can be done, and explains how to use Nearpod in detail. In addition, Hasan also explained the strengths and weaknesses, as well as strategies to deal with the weaknesses of the Nearpod platform.
