FKIP – Academic, Research, and Student Affairs Quality Assurance Unit (UPM) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education ( FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a virtual workshop with the theme “Building a Quality Culture Towards Superior Accreditation”. This workshop was held online via Zoom Meeting on Tuesday (28/9/2021).

The Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si in his speech said that one of the main performance indicators of a university is the percentage of study programs that have been certified or internationally accredited. He believes that internal parties already have a good enough culture to carry out quality assurance, he hopes to be able to lead to international accreditation.

He continued, to build a culture of quality, it is necessary to continuously socialize with all academics.

“Therefore, we need to get used to building a quality culture to lead to superior accreditation or international accreditation, we need to continuously disseminate it to stakeholders and the academic community,” he continued.

Chairman of the Independent Accreditation Institute Educational (LAMDIK), Prof. Muchlas Samani, as the speaker explained about the standard LAMDIK. It is known that each accreditation agency has different accreditation standards, while LAMDIK hopes to use international rules.

“The hope is that internationally it must be by international rules, but on the other hand it cannot be separated from the policies, norms, and rules of the government, higher education, and BAN-PT,” he explained.

LAMDIK applies for a principle-based approach, outcome-based accreditation, and the educational aspect is emphasized. According to him, this principle is a trend for the future so that study programs will not be stagnant on the rules alone.

“I think this is the trend going forward, so higher education study programs are not stagnant on the rules but the basic principles, what matters is not having what but what kind of graduates,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ir. Prastawa Budhi, as the second speaker, explained how to develop a quality assurance strategy with characteristics in the study program. According to him, the characteristics of each study program are an important thing in the quality assurance process.

“This coincides with the establishment of the Educational LAM which will operate next year (2022), so I think the characteristics of the study program are important in the quality assurance system,” he explained.

Furthermore, he congratulated and bid farewell to LAMDIK who would soon part with BAN-PT and stand independently. This is not without reason, but it has been stated in the law that further study program accreditation is accredited by the Independent Accreditation Institute.

“I congratulate LAMDIK, who will soon part with BAN-PT because it is mandated by law that the accreditation of study programs must be accredited by an independent accreditation agency,” he said.

Vice Dean for Academics, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, in his closing statement said that the cycle of plan, do, check, and action is part of the change process. He hopes that the internal quality culture can gain recognition from external parties.

“Hopefully, if our internal guarantee system is good, we will get recognition externally, both nationally and internationally,” he concluded.
