FKIP – With the theme of batik, Pre-service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Students Batch 2 of 2022 English Education Study Program (Prodi) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Training program for Jumputan Batik Making. The program was held on Sunday (28/5/2023) in Kenocorejo Village, Polokarto, Sukoharjo.
The program is an implementation of the Leadership Project course. In its performance, the FKIP UNS Pre-service PPG Student Team, totaling 12 people, collaborated with the Karang Taruna Hasrat Manunggal, Kenokorejo Village. They carry the “MBAK JUM KERJO” acronym for Batik Jumputan Kenokorejo as an Educative Creative Innovation for the Introduction of Today’s Entrepreneurs.
Contacted by the fkip.uns.ac.id Journalist Team, Sitta Murti as the Head of the Pre-service PPG Student Team FKIP UNS, revealed that the purpose of implementing this program was to foster an entrepreneurial spirit for young people while preserving the local culture of jumputan batik, which is increasingly being eroded by contemporary culture.
“This project aims to foster a spirit of creativity and entrepreneurial insight to face the challenges of the times without forgetting the cultural values already around us,” said Sitta, Tuesday (13/06/2023).
To realize the program that meets expectations, Sitta and her team partnered with a humanist working on jumputan batik since 2018, Rahayu Hariyati. In this activity, Rahayu said that the skill of making jumputan batik would foster a sense of appreciation for the artisans. More than that, if this skill is developed, it will benefit you and those around you, both in terms of usefulness, financial, and inner satisfaction.
Sitta also said that in practice, her team and Rahayu invited young people to build knowledge related to jumputan batik. After that, they were given the opportunity to practice, starting from making fabric designs according to each variety, dyeing, fixing, drying, to washing.
Through this training, Sitta and the team hope to provide benefits and provisions in entrepreneurship for young people in Kenokorejo Village. Sitta also said that this hope was supported by Rahayu’s availability to assist young people in carrying out advanced training independently,
“We hope this activity will provide benefits in the form of entrepreneurial skills for local youth. Our hope is also supported by Ms. Rahayu who said that if friends from youth organizations want to conduct training independently, please get in touch with her directly, and come to the training location so that the batik program does not stop until the event is over,” said Sitta.
