FKIP – Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta managed to get 2nd place in the Campus Inclusion Competition between Faculties in UNS which was held in the framework of the 46th Anniversary of UNS. The award was received directly by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Sc., on Friday (20/5/2022) in the Ballroom on the 3rd Floor of the Ki Hadjar Dewantara UNS Tower Building.

The competition, which was initiated by the Center for Disability Studies at the UNS Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), aims to measure how inclusive a faculty is by using a matrix called UNS Matric Inclusion. Several instruments will be assessed in this competition, including facilities and infrastructure for children with special needs (ABK), siding with ABK in both faculty documents and SOPs, as well as activities that support inclusiveness.

Met by a team of journalists from fkip.uns.ac.id, Tuesday (7/6/2022), Dr. Mardiyana expressed gratitude for these results. He said that the acquisition would be a reference for improving inclusiveness within FKIP UNS.

“After passing the document assessment and other assessments, FKIP UNS was declared the 2nd Winner of the Inter-Faculty Campus Inclusion Competition in UNS. Of course, this is a result that we should be grateful for and we can use it as a reference for making improvements related to inclusiveness at FKIP UNS, especially improvements in the urgency of facilities for children with special needs in FKIP UNS, “said Dr. Mardiyana.

In addition to aiming to increase inclusiveness in the UNS FKIP environment, Dr. Mardiyana also said that the improvements made were also one of the efforts to obtain international accreditation. He explained that one of the international accreditation assessment instruments is inclusiveness at the university, faculty, and study program levels.

“Increasing inclusivity within FKIP UNS is also in line with our mission to seek international accreditation for FKIP UNS study programs as an indicator of an improvement in the quality of FKIP UNS. Several international accreditation instruments also contain points on how the policies of universities, faculties, and universities are to facilitate children with special needs, “explained Dr. Mardiyana.

At the end of the interview session, Dr. Mardiyana invites the entire academic community, especially at FKIP UNS to take side and care for children with special needs by providing services according to their needs.

“I invite the entire academic community at FKIP UNS to take sides and care for children with special needs. So, we hope that all students, lecturers, and education staff at FKIP UNS will provide services to children with special needs according to their needs. Let’s try that they don’t experience obstacles that interfere with their learning process, “said Dr. Mardiyana.
